Help
I just got news in my church's daily email that the mother of one of our middle school youth group girls died unexpectedly yesterday. This girl, Tia, sometimes comes to my small group on Wednesdays. She is a 7th grader and an only child. I do not know of a father in her life. Just her and her mom. I do not know what this means for her. Her mother was 44. Her maturity level is not of a 12-13 year old. Would you pray for her? And for me? I do not know what will come my way as a result of this since when she does attend youth group she is in my small group.

2/25/08 update:
We have learned that Tia has two older brothers in their 20's. One lives nearby. One lives in Georgia. Tia is staying with the local brother while they decide what to do with her. A family in our church has offered to take her in, but Tia's mother left nothing in writing about guardianship. So right now we wait. I have not seen her yet, but our youth pastor has. He just told me she is still in shock--probably not really taking it all in yet.

I can't even imagine losing my mother at such a young age, and without a strong father figure aroung. I will add her to my prayers and hope that there is a very loving grandparent/aunt or someone in the family who is willing and WANTING to take her in and raise her in her mother's wishes...

That is sad. It is hard enough losing a parent, but a girl this young. Will pray for her and for you to know exactly what to do and say.

Kim, as a fellow youth group leader I will pray that God give you the words, the actions, and the love needed to help Tia through this. I will also pray for Tia, that God put peace in her heart and show her that He loves her, no matter what. It can be a terribly difficult thing to understand at her age, and I will pray that she does not turn against God, but rather to Him. You're in my thoughts,

My thoughts are with you and I'll be saying some prayers as well. I know what this feels like. I lost my Dad when I was 10 years old and 50 years later it still hurts. Sometimes it seems like only yesterday.......

That is such sad news Kim. I pray for the young girl and pray that God puts the exact right words on your heart when you see her. What a devestating thing for a child!
