I Can't Spell!

Donlyn

Recommended Posts

Maybe I have just become too complacent, maybe too dependent on spell check.

I do know that my keyboard can't keep up with my fingers.

And I do know that my brain someitmes flips things around.

(see what I mean - sometimes - geesh)

I wish I could see my spelling mistakes - but I just don't see them - sometimes.

I so appreciate when someone lets me know that a word is spelled wrong - thank you!

I hate it when I print something and then have that one hidden spelling mistake that my mind just could not see.

<breath - breath deep - really deep>

Ok, I feel better now. :monkeydance:

I'll change that miss spell tomorrow, my scrap time is up for today.

<sigh>

I know exactly what you mean Donlyn. There are some words that I consistently mistype eg paepr for paper. Why?I don't know. The fingers just don't connect to the brain.Does anyone else have words like this when they are typing? It would be nice to know that Donlyn(a lovely unusual name by the way) are not alone in this

I have had to redo LOs because of spelling. It is one of the reasons I always save psd files.

I have always been an extremely bad speller. I hate it when I ask someone how to spell a word and they tell me to look it up in the dictionary!!! If I new how to spell it, I'd be able to look it up !!!

For some reason I'm always hitiing the button to Capitalize but it just doesn't work. I'm always going back to redo.

It drives me crazy.

OK, you asked for it: breathE - breathE deep - really deep.....sorry, I'm just giving you a bad time! :disappearing-smilie: I've always been a very good speller, but the older I get the harder it is to see words, especially on the computer screen, and even more especially with the fancy fonts that I like to use. And I won't even get started on the arthritic hands which complicate keyboarding. Have you noticed that as soon as you print something or post it to the gallery, the first thing you see is the misspelled word? Please let me know if you see one of my layouts with a spelling or grammatical error, I always save a PSD file so I can make corrections.

You know what's sad? I didn't even notice your miss spelled word until you pointed it out. I think I just read too fast to notice, because the letters are there, even though they are in the wrong order. I'm normally a good speller, just not a good reader, I guess.

Anyway, I'll try to remember to let you know if I see a typo! I hope you have a better evening!

Well I think I completely missed the misspelled word as well. Sorry. But I will tell you I had made this adorable LO of my DD with my bestfriend. I showed her & I was just beaming waiting for her response. I knew she would love it & the first thing she said was.... "ohhhh hunny you spelled my name wrong!" OMG imagine my embarassment. I always called her Debi but we never talked about how to spell it!!! Luckily it was a Digi page I had it fixed in 1 minute & reprinting. Since I had just started Digi scrapping it was a clear indicator that I had stumbled upon the RIGHT way to scrap!!! LOL :tinkerbell:

Thank you all for commenting to my post - you make me feel more human - that's always a good thing isn't it?

Tink, I felt for you miss=spelling your friend's name - thank goodness for our pixils that we can so easily change!

I have a very unusual unique name and I don't think the doctor who brought me into the world every got it right.

After I posted this a friend reminded me how much joy I get out of my grandmother's letters and all of her miss spelled words.

So, I guess my foible will be my children's joy one day. Sunday is March 2nd and I want to post on my blog the letter my mom wrote to her grandmother about her marriage to my dad in 1937. It's very sweet. My mom was a horrible speller too, but a wonderful letter writer. She used short cuts too like U for your and R for are.

Ok, back to work -- Donlyn

It's funny how your mind just reads what you mean for it to say. I'm usually a fairly good speller, it's more of a typing issue for me, but it doesn't matter how often I read over some things, I won't see the mistake until it's printed.

I've felt bad pointing out spelling mistakes to people the couple of times I've done it (they're looking for love, and I'm criticizing), but I know it drives me crazy when I don't see the typo till after it's printed.

I know I've learned to avoid journalling or extensive posting when I'm tired. My brain and my fingers just don't communicate very well. It's not just mis-spellings, it's the malapropisms that just kill me when I read them later. I know what I meant to say, honest!

I think I am one of the worst spellers there is....I am awful. One of my early jobs was a receptionist at a stamp and trophy shop. People would come in and I would help them design their plaques, stamps, trophies, awards, that kind of thing. I loved the designing part, helping them choose all the pieces. But then, they would want to dictate the text to me. It was so intimidating, standing at the counter writing what they said, and having someone say "you aren't going to print it like that, are you?" I always felt like an ***.

Now, when I scrapbook, after I type my journaling, I copy it and paste it in Word and run a spell check. Then I can fix any words I may have misspelled. That saves me from typos most of the time. I wish I had a spell check here on the message board, however! :)

Don't stress about misspelled words. We all make mistakes.

I have always wondered that myself, if I can't spell it what would be the purpose of looking it up???? I am a pretty good speller, but I have an employee that is just horrible, I laugh at her all the time when she writes down names in her appointment book, it just amazes me the way she spells things. I wonder how she ever made it through grade school. Now typo's can't be helped sometimes. ;)

you know what our brain does? when it sees the right letters but all jumbled up? it still knows what word it is, that is why you don't see your "wrong spelling"

it also has enough when you wouldn't use a, o, u etc....

it still knows what word you mean thnks what is that? yeah right! thanks... see? just point your finger to nature and don't blame yourself...

and in case i typed a word wrong in this comment... i have a great excuse.... I AM DUTCH! lol

hugs anyway with or without "wrong spelling"

You are not alone, I am really bad at doing things like this, thank goodness for digital scrapping! I'm especially bad when I am chatting online as my fingers don't work with my brain.

You are not alone.

Tip to catch typos:

1. have someone else read your work.

2. Read aloud. - You will be force to read slower if you read out loud.

3. Read backwords. - Start at the end and read each word individually - this slows you down even more to concentrate on the words and not what you are saying.
