How Do I Change An Image Resolution Automatically In Pscs3?

I've recently made the upgrade from PS7 to PSCS3. Yaaay! I've discovered however, that whenever I open a photo from my digital photo folder, the resolution is 72dpi, not 300dpi as was in PS7. The width and height measurements are huge though - from 45-80+ cms, and it's still between 3 and 5 megapixels depending on what camera setting I used. I have to change the dpi back to 300 manually, and then photo reduces to about 13cm wide or thereabouts without reducing pixel count.

My question is, why does the file not stay 300dpi to start with, and is there a setting I can change to make it open at 300dpi? I didn't have this problem in PS7.

Thanks

Are you opening the photo with the crop tool open, is that how you know the resolution is changing? Because your photo should open at whatever resolution it was shot at and the only time it should change if you have the crop tool open, but the resolution showing there isn't the resolution of the photo, or if you convert the image size.

I don't know if this will help but in preferences you can set the resolution for new documents....maybe the print resolution is set to 72 instead of 300. I can't think what else it might be....if I think of something I'll post it.
