New-need Help!

I'm new to digital scrapbooking-I purchased PSE6 about 1 month ago and have been downloading items from Scrapgirls. I just can't seem to get it all organized. I tried Picasso and don't really like it. From what I've read here, I think I should get an EHD. What size is the best to get?

Also, I'm trying to figure out the organizer is PSE6. Do I have to import things 1 at a time? If not, how do I do more than 1? I love scrapbooking digitally, but I feel so unorganized. Help!!!!

Thanks!!!

Bonnie

Hi Bonnie, and Welcome to Scrap Girls. I see that this is your first post!

Congratulations on your purchases. Sorry I can't help you with Picasso, nor PSE, (I use PSP X2) but I'm sure someone will be along shortly that can help you out.

I use Windows Explorer to organize my Scrap Girls supplies and keep it open when I'm scrapping so I can see everything. Yes, you probably should get an EHD for back up purposes, if for no other reason. Size? The biggest your budget will allow! What are they up to now? 500GB?

Check out the University for organizing tutorials.

Again, I'm glad you've decided to join us here, and hope to see more of you and your layouts in the future!

You might want to search through the threads for ideas about organizing. I know a lot of people use Aceedcee(SP???) and other tagging programs, but some of us just use a series of folders. I've been digi scrapping for about 8 months and I've settled into a pretty happy system with folders and subfolders. I may someday tag everything, but so far I haven't had an issue with remembering what I have or where it is.

Hi Bonnie! When you are ready to set up your PSE Organizer, you can import everything at one time, or you can do it by folder which might help you organize it. If you open your Organizer, go to File - Get Photos. You are able to import items by folder, you can then go in and tag that group. I find this is a little easier than importing everything at once and then going back to tag massive amounts of stuff! LOL You can also set up your folders to be watched and automatically import new items. So if you download all your stuff to a SG folder, you can watch that folder and have it show up in Organizer next time you open it.

HTH, please let us know what else we can clarify!

Hi Bonnie and welcome to Scrap Girls. I use PSE and love it. What Danna (ScrappyLibrarian) has said works well.

As for the EHD size, I'm thinking the biggest you can afford is the best. :) I don't have one yet but am saving my money for one. I'm thinking of getting at least 350 MB.

It's so nice to meet you! I'm afraid I'm not familiar with PSE6 but if it's like PSE4 at al (my old program) then you can have the organizer load folders of product. I look forward to seeing your layouts!

Hi Bonnie. I highly recommend Ro's secrets videos. The ebook will get you started on organizing. PSE6 has bridge you can use to tag keywords on your files, just go slow because bridge tends to bog down in PSE6. A lot of people use ACDSee to tag & organize which might be better for you with PSE6. When I started I was using Windows File Explorer minimized & would flip back & forth between that & PSE6. You can hold the shift key down to highlight a row of files all in a line or hold down the Control key to click on individual files. Then release the control or shift key & using your mouse click(hold down) & drag onto your PSE workspace. This will open the files up in PSE. You can then do window tile vertical or horizontal to see all your files & using the move tool you can then move them onto your LO.

HTH.
