Sierra
I just got PSE6 for my Mac. I haven't installed it yet though. I had a really hard time deciding if I should get PS CS3 or PSE 6. I thought I would be overwhelmed with PS so I went for the PSE. Now I'm wondering if that was the best decision. Does anyone else have it and installed it? If you have what do you think? Denise Doupnik
Sierra, I have both programs. If you can afford it, PSCS3 would be the better choice. You can easily load actions and styles. The pen tool is available, etc. Lots of additional toys in PSCS3. I spent hours yesterday figuring out how to add actions to PSE6, grrrr. Still have not figured out styles. Sierra
That's what I was afraid of. The $549 price tag is holding me back. I phoned Adobe to see it there was any special right now and that was the price they quoted me. Yikes! Oh well, I just might have to work with PSE6 for a while. AnnBK
The Fed Ex truck just dropped off the box containing PSE6....I knew PS would be completely overwhelming. I have not opened the box yet, but can hardly wait to see what I've gotten myself into! Does any one have any suggestions for installing everything? I have a busy day ahead so I will probably not get around to working with it until tomorrow. Thanks for any suggestions you might have!
Sierra
Please let me know what you think. So far I'm a bit frustrated with it. I just might be using PSE4 for a while.
geekscrapper
Any students in your family? You can get PS for 300 with the education discount... that's much more tolerable!

Hate to be selfish, but since you spent so much time working with installing actions (PSE6 Mac) would you share what finally worked? It kind-of increases the value of your precious time, doesn't it? Was it different from the instructions from Sue and Christy for XP and Vista? - No need to spend more valuable time rewriting instructions!! Thanks for any help you can give those of us following behind! Gracegirl
Denise Doupnik
Grace girl - I have no idea what instructions Sue and Christy left. sorry!
gracegirl
Grace girl - I have no idea what instructions Sue and Christy left. sorry! Denise - I just got MORE SECRETS for PSE6 - There were good instructions in the "important documents" section for installing styles and actions. But all of this was written for XP and Vista. The details differed in the paths to the folders where we need to place our purchased styles and actions. I'm wondering how that part is different on a Mac. I found the styles folder inside the presets folder very easily. Is that what they mean when they speak of "following the path to the folder" to install? If so, what is tricky about getting them to work? Where does the process break down? Thanks!!
Denise Doupnik
Hey Jeanne, Following the path - they list the folders you need to go to in a specific order. I found the obvious area to place the styles is not where you are to place them, lol. Regarding the MediaDatabase file - If you don't rebuild it, your app will not see the Actions, Styles too. The Mediadatabase.db3 is located at Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\ en-US STYLES - Macintosh HD\Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Locale\en-US\Photo Creations\Layer Styles ACTIONS - Place the action and png file in this folder: MACINTOSH HD\Library\Application Support\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\6.0\Photo Creations\Photo Effects HTH
gracegirl
Thanks Denise! That looks do-able. Maybe I should get on over to the boutique, buy a style or action, and give it a try! Seems like I've seen alot of questions about this on the boards - but I can't find them right now. You have probably already shared this with the SG team, but if not- this would be great to add somewhere (I'm thinking particularly those "important documents" in the More Secrets of PSE 6). Thanks again for all your help! This is a great place with great people!!

I have renamed the templates to png files frrom the psd files and put them in their respective folders. I have spotlighted the MediaDatabase (this is where I am stuck!) because I could not find it through Finder. Do I delete the MediaDatabase because I cannot open it? Also I cannot find the Locale Folder-is this normal? I am a little stuck here! Thank you so much!
2china4ever
I finally installed my actions! I had some problems finding the specific folders, but then I used spotlight-and I found them. Also I saved the .psd templates to .png in PSE6 instead of through preview. I am not sure if that helped! Thanks for all of your help!
photogeek
I use PSE 6 on my iMac and the only problem I'm having is ME----but, with the great help I've gotten from this group I'm getting it a little at a time. There is so much to learn. I'm happy with both PSE 6 and my Mac.
mrstucci
Well, I am glad to find this thread.... I just downloaded the upgrade to PSE6 and have it installed but can't find directions anywhere on how to install effects and filters which are in folders in my PSE4 folder. I dragged all my styles from the PSE4 folder and they aren't showing up in PSE6 so my creativity has ground to a halt. So if anyone can point me in the right direction, I think I can do it but the pdf that came with PSE6 didn't seem to cover how or where to move the folders from PSE4 to PSE6. I saw above about following the path and the specific order they need to be in but I don't have a clue what that order is or where to put what!!! Can you tell I am confused? Maybe it was because I spent about 11 hours flying from coast to coast yesterday on 4 different airplanes. Addled my brain..... Anyway, I appreciate any help, direction, etc. that anyone can give me, Judy PS- I decided long ago that my budget wouldn't bulge enough so that I could buy Photoshop.....
