I have this set of stitch brushes:

http://store.scrapgirls.com/product/11279/...Stitches-Biggie

I don't know how to use them or what to do. I have them installed but I'm not quite sure how to use them on a layout.

I use PSE 6 on a Mac ( and still learning 6 from PSE 4!!!)

Can someone help?
Thanks

HI Sierra!

I love these stitching brushes and used them on several Layouts. They are created to make the look of a stitch that is falling out. You have a few options. There are different types of stitching holes. They match up with certain stitches. If you play with a few of them you will see which ones go together. Then there are dangly parts. These are fun to add at the end of a row of stitches or skip a few spaces in the middle and add them there.

What really makes these brushes look like stitches is a Style. This will give them a 3-D effect, and really help them to pop off the page. There are several stitches and holes Styles under the ScrapSimple Tools Section in the boutique. If you get something like this, then you apply a holes style to the holes layer (make sure it is brushed on a separate layer from your stitches). Then you apply the stitches style to the stitch layer. This really completes the effect.

You can see how I used them on these LOs, sorry I just realized these are not in my gallery, but they are in the boutique for another product. Theresa and I worked together on these products as a ScrapSimple Club. :)

Thanks so much for the detailed reply. That seems to make sense but I have never used Styles. Is this something that a newbie can do? I looked in the Boutique and found this set of styles:

Is this what you mean or could you please direct me to what would be best.

Thanks again!

That is exactly what I mean! I use these styles, too. All you have to do is install them, and they come with instructions. Then in your styles and effects palette there is a tab or drop down option for layer styles. Once they are installed they will show up with your layer styles that are included with PSE. (just to see how styles work you can make a shape and click on one of the preset styles and see how, by clicking on it it will make an effect on your object). When you buy a style it will do the same thing. For example: with the stitches when you add a style it will adjust the texture and bevel to make it look like string, and it will add a small shadow.

They are easy to use, but be warned.... they are highly addictive. :) They are fun to really complete different looks. Especially if you use templates for things, it really gives you a finished look.

OK - I have been looking at the boutique and I think I'm more confused than ever. With the stitches that I have (in the above post) what style is best? I have looked at all of these and I don't know what one to get, or do I need more than one?

Yikes!

Hi Sierra - I love those stitches but I've never used one of the styles. I use PSE 5 and add a small bevel & shadow to the stitches and I think it gives a similar look. I have to fiddle with it to get it just right....I think that's what the SG Style helps you with - it saves you the "fiddling". :)

Here's a recent layout I created using the LYO stitches....Siobhan 1986

Hope this helps!

You can use any or none, like Janine mentioned, you can make your own. What I did was look through the styles and find a layout or marketing graphic that I loved and then I just picked that one. There is a variety because people like different stitches, or sometimes even different looks for different layouts.
