Steve has given me the OK to get a new printer...not a wide format one, as I already have one...but one for general use and photo printing. Right now I have a Photosmart p1000 which I LOVE. We are going to designate that printer to family use...

Anyone have any 8.5 x 11 printers that they just LOVE and would recommend?

Thanks!

Theresa

I just got a Canon PIXMA 4000R - it prints wonderful photos and digi pages. It's also good for everyday, normal printing, but I keep that to a minimum. Don't want to waste ink on that. It's connected wirelessly, so other than a power source, there's no wires. The laptop is "hooked up" to it wirelessly, too, so now we can print from the laptop.

I have an HP deskjet 5550 and it prints beautifully. It's also really easy to operate and install. I'd recommend it to anyone.

I'm on the hunt for a new printer too... my MIL gave us a Lexmark all-in-one and we've had nothing but trouble with it.

I just got an HP Deskjet 6840 and am relatively happy with the results. I know I have crap paper and I don't have the photo ink cartridge but what I've printed out so far is good for an inkjet. It, and my house, is wireless, so I can print to it from my laptop whenever my little heart fancies without having to have the desktop computer on.

I did save some money on it, though. A store with a name like an office item that staples things together has a 110% price match guarantee. The printer was 179 there but was only 149 at a store whose logo is a big yellow tag on a blue background. So, I got 110% the price difference which paid for the 2 year warrenty. Plus, it was rewards customer appreciation day, so I got another 12% off. :)

I'll be the first to say that you do NOT get a Lexmark or a Dell. Lexmark advertises that they are the best for photo quality (and Dell uses Lexmark and just puts their logo on it, but they are Lexmark printers). Mine SUCKS! I can't even print text good and it's supposed to be a photo printer. Ha!

I'm looking at a new printer right now. The Epson R300 looks fabulous! It prints onto CD/DVDs, borderless, has a card reader (so no matter what type of camera you have you can print directly from it) and is wireless. Niiiice. It's only $150 US. There's also the R200 which I've heard is just as good as the R200 but without the "extras". We're getting money back from the gov't (for expenses with our son's healthcare) so I'm buying the R300 the day I see that money! LOL!

I hear you about Lexmark. Mine just fell apart...granted it was only $30...but that is about all the use I got out if it. I could never get the paper feeder to work the right way, and it was always eating up the paper, getting jammed, etc...

Good RIDDENS!

In the meantime, I've been doing alot of research, and since this is replacing my smaller photosmart, I decided on the latest and greatest. It is the HP Photosmart 3310 all in one. It has the 5 seperate ink cartriges with the Vivera Inks. AND it is wireless! It has gotten stellar ratings so far. It is expensive, but I found it on E-bay for $75 off the retail, so I'm pleased! It is due to arrive today! I'll keep you posted!

I love the hp printers. they had some at the digital convention in PA and the quality was awesome. But I own an Epson R200, it's pretty great too!

Ohhhh now that I'm all excited about digital designing I want a wide format printer too. I usually SB in 12x12 so I think that's why I've hesitated to go digital. That and I like playing in the supplies! *snicker*

I have a HP PhotoSmart 7550 that I love. We've had it quite a while *knock on wood* ... and it works like a charm.

I have a Cannon that I love. It is a I950s. I don't think they make it anymore.
