Hello! I have looked back at some of the questions and responses on the MB but still haven't a clue as to what I need to do to move forward in getting the brushes/textures etc. from the order. It was my first order and did not expect to have such trouble. It seems an most of what I have downloaded is not going to be easy to use. Even the transpency seems to disappear. I spent last night downloading about 16 or so things and today I have spent hours extracting them and trying to get them in the 'right' place by following "Installing and Using Textures" but that doesn't seem to work. At this point I almost wish I hadn't ordered anything because I found out that I may be way out of my league on this stuff.

So, first I downloaded it into my EHD and extracted it there with the zip files and then tried to follow the instructions. I am hoping this can be just an easy missing link so to speak but I'm not so sure at this point.

Help...I've hit a brick wall!! :banghead:

I usually download to my desktop.
Extract from there and then save it to where I want to store it.
I have a folder in my documents called scrapbooking where I store all my stuff.

What software are you using?

Michelle

I am using PSE5. So do you think I should redownload them all into a different place?

I wouldn't redownload them. Once you've got them unzipped, you can put them where ever you want. Have you purchased Ro's Secrets for your software? The videos walk you through different techniques to get you started. I don't have PSE on this computer, so I can't walk you through the steps. If no one has helped you by the time my other computer is free, I'll be happy to try to walk you through it.

No, you don't need to download them to a different place. If you have the files extracted, then what you need to do next is install them. You will install them on your C drive in the location that is given in the instructions.

Do you know how to follow a path on your computer? Let's try to get your textures and in use first. (One thing at a time so you won't feel too lost!)

1. Find the .jpg file in one of your extracted texture folders. Keep that folder window open because you'll need it in a bit.
2. Now go to your My Computer icon on your computer.
3. Browse this path. C>Program Files>Adobe>Photoshop Elements 5.0>Presets>Textures
4. Once you have that Textures folder, go inside of it.
5.. Now copy the .jpg file (use right click Copy) and then Paste it into your Textures folder (right click Paste)
6. Once you have that done, start Photoshop Elements 5.0
7. Create a new document and pour some color into the background using the paint bucket tool
8. Then go to Filter>Textures>Texturizer
9. The dialogue window will open up. You'll then select the new texture you have installed.
10. To do this, click on the little arrow out icon by the drop down that has the texture names in it. Select Load Textures.
11. You'll then have to browse back to the location where you installed the new texture. This is this path: C>Program Files>Adobe>Photoshop Elements 5.0>Presets>Textures
12. Pick the texture and click Open
13. You can then use the sliders to play with the new texture

Every time you use a texture that doesn't come in the default set, you have to load it up by browsing to the location I've described. PSE 5 makes you do that.

Try that and then let us know if you have questions about it. We can then help you with the next product. We're very happy to help!

WOOHOOO!! I got one texture up and 'running'!! Thank-you Thank-you!! And letting me know that in PSE5 you have to go back to the beginning (so to speak) to get it up again. I thought that where I was making a mistake not able to 'keep' it in that area. Oh Dear so much to learn but I soooooooo want to learn it all and create beautiful pages with all the fun tools etc.

OK so much for today... I'm getting a headache and need to take a break. But don't go too far as I'm sure I'll be asking for directions on the next 'issue'.

Glorie...Welcome and I'm glad you got the textures figured out.

If you haven't already, I would suggest taking a look at Rozanne's Software Secrets for PSE 5 and her More Software Secrets for PSE This is a wonderful series of video's that covers texture's, brushes and everything else you can think of. In these video's Rozanne walks you through creating a layout, starting from the basics and really learning your version of PSE. Then in More Secrets you get into alot of the fun tricks and tips that people use. And the best thing about them is they are video's you can watch while you work on your program.

And the best thing is we've got a great sale going on right now..what more could you ask for! If you have any other questions about them send me and email at angie@scrapgirls.com and i'll be more then happy to help you out

Hey Minnesota Glorie!
I just wanted to encourage you to keep going. It does get easier and you can figure this out. I only wish I was a tad bit closer and I could walk you through this stuff. If you can, get Ro's videos that Angie mentioned. I'm truly a visual and experiential learner so they were perfect for me. I'm betting they could help you, too.

Not long ago we had a discouraged member that came to us for help. This is her more recent post and it just made my day: Discouraged to excitement

Remember....this is FUN! And it will be for you, too, soon! We're all here to help! :)

And to save spending hours extracting you need a little freedownlaod called "Extract Now".The thing is I can't remember where the link is.It is on this site.Someone will know.Try the University it may be there or post asking for the link and someone will be able to give it in a flash I bet.It saves such a lot of time extracting multiple files. You will wonder how you did without it.Oh that, and Font Thing,a great way to keep all your fonts organised. That is in the University

I'm glad Ro was able to help. I fell asleep last night before the computer was free. I really need to load PSE on my laptop, too. Anyway, I'm glad you got it figured out!

Followup question...I am using PSE 6 w/Vista. Is there a way to view the effect of the texture (the ones I just purchased are all PSD files) before I apply it to my page? I now have 20+ (with more on the way) and I'm sure I won't be able to remember what each looks like in a week. (Is there a cute little thingy for "Senior Moment?")
I have read all the tutorials I can find but can't seem to find an answer to this one.

thanx~sherry
