Substituting Paper For Template?

Hi!

I just downloaded the curves templates from the shop, and the directions say that I can use a paper for the template background instead of a solid color, but it doesn't explain how to do that. I use PS CS2.

I'm guessing the template becomes a layer mask? Not sure...

Thanks!

Oohhhh I've been wondering the same thing myself. I can't wait to see the answer. I'm in the process of organizing my files now so I can figure out which other collections I "NEED" ....

LOL, great .... I'm not subsituting my "gotta have" paper supplies, for "gotta have' digital supplies. Ummmm I need to do some LO!

Here's how you do it.

1. Put the template on a transparent document.
2. Put the background paper you want to use on top of the template. This layer MUST be above your template layer.
3. Hit Ctrl + G and the paper will suddenly be "cut" out in the template shape. (coolness.... )
4. Go to Layers > Merge Visible to make the template shape stick.

You can then cut out the pieces of the template that you want to use, right? And you can do this with multiple pieces of background papers - getting lots of neat effects - so you are using different papers.

Have fun!

I just found out that in PSCS2 there was a change and it is actually CTL ALT G to cut it out! So this should work for those of you with PSCS2. For those of you with PSCS or earlier Ro's Directions should work great! (Also works for Elements!)

Can't wait to see what you do with them!

Ro, I have your instructions but I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know how to create a transparent document. I have PSE5 and was unable to put paper onto the page template. Sorry to be so lame. Sheryl

Swatkins,

(I'm typing these instructions from PSE4, so your program may be slightly different.)

Go to File>New>Blank File. When the dialog box comes up, create a document that's 12 inches by 12 inches (or 3600 pixels by 3600 pixels) by 300 pixels/inch (this is called dpi or ppi), and choose "Transparent" for Background Contents in the bottom box.

There you go! Your new document should have that transparent grey grid pattern all over it.

Let me know if you have more questions!
