I had some girls approach me about how to know they are listing their credits right, or in such away that the magazines would understand their lists.

I have never been published (yet!) and I thought, I would ask someone who has been a few times and see how she does it. This is her reply to my question, I hope it might help you all.

Thank you ChristyVW for your imput,

And if any others who have submitted that have suggestions, please please do add!!

(** the format is off, i cant seem to insert tabs or spaces, so this letter is attached in a txt file with the formatting in **)
Hey Angela!

There are two companies, Scrapbook Trends and I think one other, that specify to list your supplies like:

a complete list of the supplies you used to make the item. For example:

Happy Birthday Card
Cardstock: Bazzill Basics
Patterned paper: Chatterbox
Decorative brads: Making Memories
Ribbon: SEI

where you specify each 'item' used on your layout. For those companies, my list would look like this:

The following products were used in this layout. They are all available at www.ScrapGirls.com
Action Melissa Renfro - ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Edge It 5001
Brad Ariadna Wiczling - Dynamic Brush Set: Variae Formae 8201
Brush Brandie Valenzuela - Grungelle Brush Set
Mandy Steward - Stamped Dates Brush Set
Melissa Renfro - Dynamic Brush Set: Inky 5001
Thao Cosgrove - ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brushes: Artsy Ampersand Biggie
Font Amanda McGee - AMC_Friendly Font
Bauhaus 93
Paper Amanda Sok - Textured Cardstock Mega Pack 1
Diane Miller - ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Edgy, THIN

For Everyone Else, my list would look like this:

The following products were used in this layout. They are all available at www.ScrapGirls.com
Designer Name Product_Name
Amanda McGee AMC_Friendly Font
Amanda Sok Textured Cardstock Mega Pack 1
Ariadna Wiczling Dynamic Brush Set: Variae Formae 8201
Brandie Valenzuela Grungelle Brush Set
Diane Miller ScrapSimple Paper Templates: Edgy, THIN
Mandy Steward Stamped Dates Brush Set
Melissa Renfro Dynamic Brush Set: Inky 5001
ScrapSimple Tools - Actions: Edge It 5001
Thao Cosgrove ScrapSimple Layer Your Own Brushes: Artsy Ampersand Biggie

Hope this helps and yes you can share with the ladies! I would recommend they take the time to list the products. If someone were to come to the boutique trying to buy something that was on their layout, they would have a hard time finding it if only the file name were listed!!

Blessings!
Christy

I do it the same as Christy. The Designer's name and the name of the collection specifying which item, style, ... on the layout. I think, some magazines are very strict with this. I had to fill in a form with all the details listed. HTH

Looks like the 'tabs' on my email to Angela didn't want to play nice!! the text is correct, but is formated in columns to make it more readable!! (I can't seem to get it to show right here either!!)

First example would be Product Type, Designer, Product Name columns

Second Example would be Designer Name and Product Name columns

Hope that makes sense!!!

VERY interesting! Thanks for the tips. I've never listed them quite that way but have included all the items on the pages (course I've not been published either).

Thanks a bunch!

Is there any problem with always listing the first way (with more info) so I don't have to keep track of which companies require the extra info?

I'm brand new at this, so need to keep it simple for myself!

Thanks for this thread, by the way. I would never even have thought to ask the proper way to list supplies!

Thanks Angela. One more rookie question, if you'll bear with me. (Actually I may have more rookie questions...) Does one list all the supplies with the entry, or do you wait until it's accepted and they ask for the full size file and send the supply list with that?

I had another question last night after I'd shut down, but I can't remember it now. It'll come to me, I'm sure. :-)

Oh, I just remembered my other question. I have been making all my web files 75 dpi (it just works with my fingers - I size them at 6 x 6 and 75 dpi - you have to know how odd I am to see how that makes sense. ;-) ) Anyway, I see that some companies like them at 72 dpi and I wondered how much of a difference that will make. Is 75 close enough, or do I need to resize for those companies?

I don't think it would make a difference...however, I am of the mindset that if someone takes the time to give me specific instructions, I tend to follow them. :)

Good point, Christy. I guess it wouldn't take much time to re-size them anyway.

Thanks.

I'm not sure if this question has been aked, but I know I'll get the answer here. Should I incliude the credits written in the proper format in the email with my LO, or just in the meta file? When I send a LO as an attachment to an email does the meta file "go along" with it, and can the recipient "see" it?

Include the credits in the written information. They'd actually have to open the file and check to see if the credits are there to see the meta files.
Make it easy for the person looking at the layouts.
