Guest scrappygirl01
Hi, I've seen all the great layouts that have been created with digital. I'm new at this and don't really know how this works. I'm trying to add pictures to patterned paper with the soft immage effect on the eges and make it look like the picture is just on top and still be able to see the pattern from behind. Is this possible to do? Any help anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Sandra

Durin
Hi Sandra! We are glad to have you here at Scrap Girls! You may want to also play with the opacity of your photo. Lowering the opacity of your photo layer gives a nice overlay look.

This software doesn't really work for what I want to do or may-be I'm just not doing it correctly. Any suggestions on a good software? Thanks for the link, I'll take a look at it. I apapreciate your help once again thanks. Sandra

ericahite
Hi Sandra. I guess I'm one of the tiny tiny tiny percentage of people who use a Mac. I use Photoshop so I'm really loyal to that program. I've heard great things about Photoshop Elements. But if you're new to this maybe you don't want to spend too much on just the software. I just checked over in the forums and there's a topic for Digital Design Software (under Digital Scrapbooking) and even for the software Picture It. I bet some other owners of that program can give you some tips. Sorry I haven't been of too much help. What turned you onto digital scrapping? Wxchic
Welcome to ScrapGirls Sandra!! You can download a trial versions of PSE 4 at the Adobe Website. www.adobe.com. There are many here who use elements and at less than $100 is is way more affordable than Photoshop itself which sells for $600. If you decide to try the trial, let us know because many can help you...

Where the photo sorta fades into the paper? If so, here's how it's done in general, but not sure about your specific program. Make a selection a bit smaller than you want the end result of the part of the photo you want. Like make an oval or circular selection over the faces or such. Then feather it, which is usually a modification to a selection. I'd try a number between50-100 depending on how much feathering you want. The selection marquee hould expand out but you won't see any difference yet. Copy the selection then paste it as a new layer onto the background paper image. You should now have it feathered out. I use PSP and here's some tuts on it for that. Maybe you can modify them for your program. scrappydo
If you're using PictureIt! you should be able to go to "Frame & Edge effects" and click on "soft edges". Drag the slider back and forth until you get the effect you're looking for.
