brandiev
My daughter received her first digital camera for Christmas...it is an inexpensive one (under $100), 3.1mp...it takes AAA batteries. The camera really seems to eat up the batteries...I have bought batteries three different times for it. Is this typical for all digital cameras? I bought her Duracell digital batteries and literally dead in one day. I am still new to the digital camera world -- still haven't gotten myself one yet, so I don't have anything to compare it to. Crueltyfre/Lori
Yes, this is common. Get rechargeables. That's what I have in mine oldy. I've been recharging the same set of batteries for about 4 years now. Takes about 17 hours to do so, so I let them charge overnight. Lori
Guest obsessedfae
I never thought of recharging..Wow if they last that long..I'm going to try that since I am always buying new batteries!
momentousangel
My digital camera takes double A's, so I also have the rechareables, but because my camera never has a rest, really, I always buy packs of 20 digital camera batteries by kodak, comes in quite handy, especially when I'm trying to charge batteries, I definately don't want to miss those candid shots because the rechargeables aren't charged, . I truly recommend having both on hand for those like me who are always taking photo's. That way, you won't have to miss that special "once in a lifetime" shot because of uncharged batteries. Guest Mommas
With my old digi that ate batteries like that, I bought 2 sets of rechargable batteries. 1 set to use in my cam while charging the other set. That way I was never w/o a set of batt's. Now that I have my 20D, I use the rechargables in my computer mouse.
Guest saddeyezz
I've heard that regular batteries can take 90 pictures before they go dead, but I think they go dead faster than that.
scrapsoflife
Well, having just come back from a week-long event where I took almost 500 pictures but went through a set of batteries a DAY I have come to some conclusions. First of all, it is true that the LCD panel will use more juice that just using the viewfinder. However, since I ALWAYS use the LCD I was still puzzled at why the batteries died so quickly this time. Secondly, it does matter the type of batteries you have. I stupidly picked up a package of store-brand regular batteries and packed them, and of course they died a bit faster. You get what you pay for... really! Thirdly, and this was probably my biggest issue this past week; File size!!! The larger the file size you are trying to save, the more energy its going to take. Because of the types of pictures I was taking (large group action shots and we wanted the highest quality possible for zooming in later on) all week, it now makes sense that I used up even the good batteries fast! (I had everything on max settings... to the point where only 125 pictures would fit on a 512 MB card, an average of 4 MB per photo. Even though the wait time was infinitessimal, the batteries knew the difference.) So, I'm almost willing to bet money that when I reset the camera to my normal mid-range picture size my batteries will start lasting longer than a day again Hope this helps someone. Guest Cropnpix
I specifically bought a digital camera that would work on AA batteries so if I was ever anywhere and my batteries died, I could run into pretty much any convenience store and get batteries. My old 35 mm camera took some freaky kind of special battery and I got into more trouble because of that. I have several sets of rechargeable AA's for my digital camera and it's a lifesaver! Rechargeable all the way!
Guest BonnyJean
yup AA rechargeables here too. I do have some expensive digital camera lithium batteries in teh camera case, just in case! lol
Guest moopadaisy
I need to get rechargeables too it sounds like! I hate constantly changing the batteries and missing a good shot because the batteries just died!
Syndee
Rechargables are the way to go definitely! I have 3 sets with chargers (not just for my camera - the kids games and stuff too!) And I am lovin' the newest one it charges the batteries in an hour!! Woohoo!!
gritstoner
Yeah, digital cameras are well known for eating batteries. I have found that only duracell last any length of time and even then its not that long if you're 'snappy happy' (And aren't we all?) I invested in 3 sets of batteries with the highest MAh available (at that time it was 1800 but they now sell 2600) I also bought a fancy charger that discharges the batteries completely before charging them, and then when fully recharged puts them on 'trickle charge' to maintain the charge without damaging them. Digital cameras don't fully discharge the batteries and this can leave them with a 'memory' and reduce their lifespan. Almost forgot, 3 sets are because one is in the camera, one is in the camera case for when they run out, and one is in the charger. If I know in advance that I will take tonnes of photos I make sure all 3 sets are fully charged beforehand. This costs a reasonable amount of money to set up but is well worth it.
