varanda
Hi everyone. My name is Valerie Randall and I have been scrapbooking for 10 months now! I'm a late bloomer and tried avoiding it like the plague, but now I am addicted. And how! I have been an illustrator (www.valerierandall.com) and graphic designer for over 25 years, self employed since I was 23. I am self-taught and my path has led me through many adventures. I even taught in the design department for 5 years at a private art college in San Francisco (7 college courses in 3 days---whew!) For the past 7 years, one of my major clients has been Broderbund software and I was contracted to create the "output" (examples) on their software packages. I worked on many product lines including The Print Shop, PrintMaster, American Greetings CreataCard and Click Art among others. My experience in these products led me to write and self publish a book called FanCraftic Party Crafts. The book features 12 party sets and includes the templates for each item, making it easy for everyone to personalize, print and craft. I included step-by-step directions and illustrations showing how-to complete the crafts. Marketing my book was harder than writing it. One day I had a brainstorm. "Wouldn't people love to make a scrapbook to match the party they just had?" I thought to myself. Suddenly, I was off and running, scrapbooking my experiences digitally. I started writing articles about how to make scrapbook pages to match the crafts in my book. I didn't think anyone else was doing this. I begin creating my own digital elements because I needed them. Then Broderbund called and asked me to create scrapbook "output" for a new product: Creating Keepsakes Scrapbook Designer Deluxe. I created everything featured on the box and browser from scrapbook pages to greeting cards and more. My fascination hasn't stopped. I became a Digital Diva at www.mmdivas.com and from there met the team at SBE and now create digital page kits there www.scrapbook-elements,com as well as paper crafts. I just can't stop applying my designs to greeting cards, gift bags and more. I live in Northern California on about an acre. There were 4 buildings on the property when we bought it: our house; a two car, two story garage (my studio is upstairs and DH has an 8 colour silk screen press in the garage), a shop/studio for DH (artist and furniture maker) and a long narrow storage bldg. We used to live in a 5,000 sq. ft. warehouse and finding a place that would fit all the stuff we have was difficult. But now we also have simple things like HEAT and a bath tub, so life's good! The buildings are around the edges of the property which leaves a big chunk in the center where DH grows organic vegetables. This year things are out of control: for some reason he planted at leat 20 zuchinni plants (ugh!) and we have 300 strawberry plants (ACK!) DH has a DD who is 10 and she lives with us half time. We also have 2 cats and a pair of mini doxies. It all provides great material for scrapbooking!
