My nearly 3 year old has amazing language skills, he was talking in full sentences before he was 2. Now he's picking up words and phrases from Daddy (and me) and other grown ups.

So this morning, Alex says "Tyler calls me bad words, but I just say p**s off!" He almost sounds British they way he says it!

I asked who says that, I'm told grandpa's dog scratched him, so grandpa said "p**s off Chetty" to the dog. LOL I know I shouldn't laugh, but it's kind of funny hearing it. Much better than last weeks "I can't find my f****n tile" (Daddy has to watch what he says!!)

Yes indeed! I knew I had to clean it up when my now 15yo DS was 2 or 3 and I heard him drop something and then mutter, "Dammit."

Little sponges!

Funny! I heard my DS#1 playing with his GI Joes in the bathroom sink jumping off the side into the water & saying, "Oh sh_ _!" Yes we watched what we were saying from then on!

My first words according to my mother were "D_ mm, D_mm, Double D_mm" which she never said again after that day - then when my DS dropped something and said "sh_t" in front of both of us, I heard the "see, didn't I tell you" from my mom. Little sponges, indeed!

lol My 3 year old dd is the same, repeating everything now. THey do say the cutest things at this age, even the things they shouldn't say sound cute coming from them. My dd is a tattler - she'll come running to us and tell us what so and so did or said, even when she's playing with her dolls she come say dollie did something she wasn't supposed to do.

We have these same issues around our house. I think one of my favorites was last year when I was hearing 4 yo DD saying 'come on sucker!' and telling DH it wasn't so cute coming out of her mouth (well, it was kind of cute, just not so appropriate). I explained to her that it just wasn't such a nice thing to say...so she continued whatever she was doing and started saying 'come on lollipop!!' :)

LOL My DH was chasing Alex around the house, he turned around and said "you can't catch me old man" DH stopped in his tracks, a little shocked at being called an old man! We think it's a line from the movie Cars, Alex loves Cars right now. LOL Crazy kids.

Too funny everybody. I'm sure my kids dropped a few inappropriate words at some point but I can't think of any right now. I love the "come on lollipop." Thanks for the laughs.

I come from a very conservative family (Dad's a preacher)... so even the slightest words that may sound non-cussy to you are taboo in our house....

that said... the other day (in front of my dad), Brayden was doing something and yelled "OH MY GOSH!" My dad about flipped out on him. It was really kind of funny. I'm just glad he wasn't there a day latter when Brayden dropped his toy on his foot and said, "Oh dang it all." Which I totally say all the time, but not in front of Dad. :disappearing smile:

Oh my gosh! I haven't actually, truthfully laughed out loud at a post on this message board until right this minute! Christy you kill me! Come on sucker....lollipop! That is soooo funny.

I think I really started to watch my mouth the day I was driving with dd (age 3'ish) and she said "Watch out ... id**t," oh and then one morning she looked me straight in the eye and said, "Where's my d**n breakfast?"

Kids say the darnedest things!

Its been my 3rd that's had the mouth - he really liked the d**n word. He was always saying "this d.. (whatever)" - I bawled him out, and he just said "but mom, it is a d**n ......" What do you say to that?
It is strange how some of the words we say don't seem that bad till they come out of your child's mouth. I don't think that much about "sucks", but man it bothers me when my 8 & 10 yr old dds say it.

I know exactly what you mean! When my sister's kids were little I would call them goofballs. No harm, they were just being silly. She asked me not to and I never understood why. Now, my kids call eachother "bunhead" harmless sounding, but it's their intention and tone. Amazing how a simple word can turn into an insult to a 5 and 3 yr old!

I'm not even going to type what my then four year old DS learned from one of his older brother's friends.
It's not even a swear word but the word you say when you don't want to say the word. But it's bad enough (not the SH or D type of word) and I do not want him talking like that. The first time I heard him I said "WHAT did you say"? and he said "but mom I didn't say the BAD word"

That boy doesn't come over so much anymore ;-)
The friend that is, not my son LOL

Oh my! That's so cute (well, you know what I mean). I know it's not good to laugh at them when they say those things, but darn if it isn't cute, huh?

One day, I think my son was around three, and my hubby took him to the arts festival in Pittsburgh. While they were going to cross the street, a car came speeding passed - WAY too fast. Of course, hubby wasn't thinking and he said "Slow down, a@@@@le!" Well, Cameron followed suit and chimed in, "Yeah, slow down..." Hubby said the main standing next to them broke out in a full out belly laugh.

In don't get too bent out of shape about it...that just adds fuel to the fire. My children absoutely may not take the Lord's name in vain-no discussion. However, with movies, school, etc, they hear lots and want to experiment. I tell them that they are just words that have crass connotations, which some people find offensive, and it is extremely inappropriate for children to use those words. So as long as they live with me they must be good citizens, and when they are adults, they a free to choose what they say.

"So When I'm grown up I can say $%&^&%^##^&^&^*&^(*#$##@? if I want to? "

"Yes, son. Don't ask again."

Burnsie,

That's one of the clearest explanations to give to a child I've ever heard! Your children have one smart mom! I hope they realize it!

This is so funny, my dd is just starting to say words and pout them together, I didn't really notice that i say ah ah alot when i mean no or be careful until she went near something hot and said ah ah, whenever i catch myself doing it i have a little chuckle and try and say something else before it comes out. it kinda made me realise that she really does listen to EVERYTHING i say even if it means nothing to her now. Discussions with DH are so out of earshot now, little monkey !!

We try to keep notes on some of the cute things our kids say. The funniest one so far comes from out oldest. "I slept with my monkey last night and I didn't play with it." (A Beannie Baby)

These stories crack me up! With 4 kidlets, I have heard my fair share and I'm sure I'll hear more. I think the funniest I have heard so far was our oldest, who dropped something. In his little 18 month old voice, he says "Mammit, pip me off!" I almost choked on my cheerios! They've all gone through it, and it's not like when I was a kid, the language, even in children's movies, has gotten very coarse. Makes it pretty much impossible to shield them from it all. I agree with Burnsie - making a big deal just seems to make it worse.
