have just downloaded some great fonts and installed them. had to open a scrap document just to try them out and found that when scrolling through them, some of them do not display characters but display question marks instead. does anyone know what im talking about and any one know how to fix this

i so desperately want to use a particular type and cant get to use it

Is the font not showing up in your listing, but showing question marks instead? I downloaded a font once that would only show the first letter in the listing, but it worked fine when I actually used it. Did you try typing something with that font anyway?

I really don't know anything about fonts, hopefully someone with some knowledge will chime in. Hope you get to use your fonts! :)

That's common. It means there is no letter or character for that position. Trying using the shift key or not depending on what you already tried. (Many fonts only have all uppercase or only use a few symbols.) This is one of the downfalls of free fonts - they aren't often very good quality - meaning they have incomplete character sets. The designer often repeats one symbol, like a question mark, in the spots he didn't design for. With professional (pay for) fonts, sometimes they even release like a sample font, where there are only a few characters to show what you COULD have if you buy the font.
