I purchased Ro's Scrapbook Secrets and my question is which one should I save or backup my files to DVD or CD? Appreciate your comments or suggestions. momentousangel Posted February 5, 2006 Share Posted February 5, 2006 I don't think either makes a real difference so long as you have them backed up. Saving them to a cd, you could easily save them as data, saving them as a dvd you could pop the dvd into your home dvd player to watch even when you aren't at the computer, like if you wanted to try and memorize some of the steps and tips given etc, either way is good, so long as you have them backed up, . Guest jlf_loves_mjf Posted February 5, 2006 Share Posted February 5, 2006 If you have the ability to backup to DVD, I would suggest that. DVDs hold 4.8 GB of information...that's more than 6 CDs. (Think of the shelf space you'd be saving!) Many DVDs (and CDs for that matter) will allow you to record in multiple sessions which means if you don't have a full DVD or CD worth of information now you can add more to it later. Home-burned CDs and DVDs are not as permanent as discs burned by manufacturers (Music, movies, software, etc.) so you should check them and possibly make a second copy for safe keeping. debalfstad Posted February 6, 2006 Share Posted February 6, 2006 I was getting ready to burn copies of my files to DVD. I wanted to "scrap" some labels of what's on the DVD's. Has anyone else done that? If yes, how? I have an Avery label program and CD/DVD labels but I'm not sure if I will be able to use the SG files in that program to design my labels or if I'm going to have come up with something that will work in PSE4 to give me my label layouts. I tried to bring some files into the Avery program and it lets me use the .jpg files but not the others. So it looks like I might have to create the entire file PSE4, save it as a .jpg and then bring that into the Avery program. Hmmm.....maybe I'll just use a Sharpie pen and keep scrapping - lol! It's real easy and the labels line up automatically so now measuring. You simply plug in the product number and a template pops up that you fill in. You might have to first save the image to a specific format, can't remember now off the top of my head which it uses or not. I also did some from inside PSP Album and it worked the exact same way. KathleenSD Posted February 6, 2006 Share Posted February 6, 2006 I would also suggest backing them up not just in JPEG but someother format like TIFF (I know it takes up a lot of space) - we just have to be careful that in the coming years they don't change formats on us. dinny Posted February 6, 2006 Share Posted February 6, 2006 I use DVDs because they hold so much more info. And do make 2 DVDs, just in case. I've read that you should NEVER use a sharpie on a CD/DVD. They didn't explain why that was a problem, but they suggested to use pens designed for writing on CDs. I have also heard that printed labels on DVD's can cause the reader to get "off balance" and misinterpret your data. So, I just make a square label to fit the cover of the case. momentousangel Posted February 6, 2006 Share Posted February 6, 2006 Also, when backing up to either a dvd or a cd, be sure that if the discs you buy are on a spindle, that you store the discs in a better case so that the discs don't become scratched or unreadable, just thought that should be added to because I know some people buy the cd's or dvd's that are on the spindles and forget about jewel cases etc. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I didn't with the first few ScrapGirl Club kits. I, actually, LOST my December!! How do you do THAT? Anyway, I am using Word to print out the Club kit picture and license agreements for each. I put them in my CD holder (like you use for music cds) with the CD That way I know what I have ... I am still burning CDs for kits I purchased LoL I reduced the size of the pic so I could get four of them (license and picture) on one page.
