I'm not sure where to post this, but hopefully someone can help me out. I have some old pictures that I took with my 35 millimeter camera. I still have the negatives but want to incorporate them into my digital scrapbooking. I don't think my home scanner is good enough to scan the negatives or the prints at a good resolution for that matter. I also don't have so many that I want to go out and buy a new scanner. Is there a service that can do this for me if I give them the negatives? Thanks.

I'm sorry I can't answer your question, but I'll bump it so hopefully someone else can! Good luck!

I use a Nikon negative/slide scanner for this, but we have a local shop who will do it for a price. It is usually less expensive if you are fortunate enough to have uncut negatives. Good luck!

You may find that if you have a lot to scan, it might be cheaper to just buy a negative scanner - you can get scanners that are just for slides/negatives, or regular flatbed scanners that are set up to do slides & negatives as well.

It is dull, time consuming work, I do it while I am doing something else like reading a novel or listening to a book on CD. Bob likes to scan negatives while watching football games.

I have a scanner and agree with both April & Sheri. It is very dull, time consuming work
but if you have lots to scan it may be less expensive to purchase your own. I have an Epson
scanner and scan both negatives and slides. I've got a couple hundred done and have more then
a 1000 to go over yet!

I do think it is worth my time and $ to preserve the past; it just takes so much time!!!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I have a scanner and am able to scan negatives, but they take quite a while to scan. I went to my local Sam's Club. Went to the photo counter. Asked them and sure enough they had a scanner that would scan negatives in that store. I left my negatives and they scanned them and saved them to a disc. The cost was $.18 each for a scan that is suitable for a great 4x6 print. I could have had them scanned at a higher resolution for about twice that. They saved them in both .jpg and .bmp formats.
Try you local Sam's. I'm sure they could do the same at Walgreen's. You can always take in your negatives to be reprinted and as for them on CD also.

Since you don't have that many, I'm sure there's someplace you could go that wouldn't break the bank - do you have a Sam's in your area? I know that not all Sam's photo labs are the same... ;) so you'd want to check it out. But $0.18 for each as Ann had done is a great price - it truly is boring work. The only recommendation I would have is to consider as high a resolution as you can afford, just because you just never know how you'd like to use them in the future, and higher resolutions give you more flexibility. :)

Costco will do them also, and at a pretty good price.

I like to scan slides or photos on Thursdays while waiting to see what's new in the boutique. It is boring, but I have so many that need doing.

I have used ScanCafe.com twice and am very happy with the results. It takes some time but I think it's worth the time and money to get them converted. I've been sending my negatives in batches to spread the cost out a little. Next I want to get my hands on my mom's negatives!
