Ordered this book and it was at home waiting for me when I got back from SLC. I've loved her book The Artist's Way and as I'm reading this it all makes sense to me. Our emotions can block the creative flow as well as cause us to overeat. When in sync with our inner life, both creativity and the ability to live a more healthy lifestyle are enhanced. So here I am, starting to write my morning pages again and following her 7 steps. Its only been a couple of days now, but I think this may be something to get me over that initial motivation hump to do something about a part of my life that makes me miserable. the nice thing about this is it really isn't a diet, but can be used in conjunction with any diet plan you want and works for you. I recommend it and would love to hear what others find to be helpful too.

Sounds interesting. I'll have to see if they have either of those books at my library (I'm a huge fan of my library!). Thanks for the heads up!

Haven't heard of it, Sandi. I'll have to check it out. I'm not a big fan of "diet books" per se, but I could almost see this ideal tying in with scrapbooking - making it that much more do-able.

Very interesting. The power of the mind over the body is tremendous so this makes perfect sense! I would love to hear more!

I absolutely believe in a mind/body connection. I've written this down to see if our library has it.

I'm about half way through it and I'm already staring to do her writing projects. I think this will be a very good thing to help in many aspects of my life, but to help me be more mindful of what I'm really doing to myself.

I'm absolutely convinced that weight control is connected to your thoughts and feelings. Having said that, it doesn't help me much with mine, because I don't really know how to change my patterns! This sounds like a great book for me! I'm off to Amazon to have a look for it.

I've also just ordered a book called "If Not Dieting, Then What?" which is also supposed to tackle the reasons behind emotional eating. I haven't got it yet and wondered if anyone has read that?

Thank you so much for sharing this, Sandi!

Interesting Sandi & it makes total sense now the hard part to get motivated to stick to something . But it definetly is worth a try.

It is possible to change your self talk, and it's well worth the effort. Negative self-talk is pretty self-defeating.
You wouldn't talk nasty to a small child, but it's so easy to do it to our inner child.
Have compassion for yourself - you're doing the best you can in the moment. Try it and see.
You really can "erase" the old negative "tapes" in your head and "record" positive ones.

I have this book - and have lost 15 pounds so far and kept them off!

I too love Julia Cameron, have nearly every single one of her books. I write in my journal daily, so I was attracted to this book immediately. It doesn't approach things like "we're going on a diet now".

Just the writing process is cathartic for me... started identifying my emotional triggers to eat or not eat - and even what I was drawn to eat when a particular issue was going on in my life. This book helped me to not set up unrealistic expectations which ALWAYS lead me to self defeating behaviors. I don't ping pong back and forth. I don't fast. I don't binge. AND I don't raid the pantry when my DH & I have been fighting for a few days.

I don't know that this style is for everyone - but it is exactly the approach that I needed to finally start getting this extra weight off that has plagued me for the past 5 or so years.

I'll put in my 2 cents of a recommendation - it is working for me.

I'll have to take a look at this one. I've sporadically used The Artist's Way in the past and have found it to be a great help (don't know why I haven't kept up with it). It will be interesting to see if this book really helps with the mind-body stuff.

Just three days into following this so no real results yet except in the way I'm thinking about eating and food. This approach can be used with any diet plan, but clean eating is coming up more in the book. I know Jan has adopted that and I will also be moving in that direction. I love Julia Cameron's other books. I'm so happy Patty Ann is seeing great results with this. I'm into it so far with excitement. At this point I'm really recommending it. Would love to hear more stories like PA's.
