Torn Edges?

Lately the easiest thing for me to do is use Angie's new Tear It Up Layout Templates. It is so easy and looks very real. I LOVE THEM. Here's a link to them. They are also handy if you just need a small edge of a photo or paper torn. I just overlay the paper or photo using her templates and then crop to only the part I want to show torn. She has two different ones in the boutique now, this is the link to only one of them.

Cheryl also has an embellishment kit that helps you create torn papers. Here's the link to hers as well.

Here's an example of how I used Angie's Tear It Up Layouts.

Here's what I do in Photoshop

take the paper you want to tear and using the ruff round bristle brush (3rd from bottom in default brushes) erase where you want it torn.

make a duplicate layer of this paper

click on the duplicate layer to make it active then you are going to change the hue/saturation by choicing create new fill or adjustment layer in the layers palette and choose hue/saturation

Increase the lightness to almost 100% then click ok. Cntrl E to merge the saturation layer with the duplicate layer

Choose Filter>texture>craquelure This will add the crackle look to your paper. Play around until you get a look you like. I usually go with about Spacing 14, Depth 1 and Brightness 9

Move your duplicate layer under your orginal one and with the same brush as in the first step now erasethe torn part. Remember the more random it is the better it will look.

Merge the 2 layers then add your drop shadow. After you've added your shadow I always go back and look for any strays that need to be cleaned.

Hope this helps you out!
