Grandma sent home quite a few toy catalogs this past weekend, and my kids have been paging through these making their Christmas lists for days now.

This morning, Josh (he's 9) comes down the stairs and tells me "Mommy, I have something to add to my Christmas list. It's something I can wear". Well, gosh, this is new! So I ask him what it is he wants...

His reply "I want a red tie - you know the kind you wear with this type of shirt (button down dress shirt)."

My 9 year old son wants a necktie for Christmas!!! I'm sorry, but this just makes me giggle. Myself and his stepdad live in jeans and t-shirts. We are the farthest thing from "dressing up" that you can get. So where on earth did my son come up with this??? OMG...what a hoot!

Of course, Grandma will be thrilled. She's the one that bought him those button-down dress shirts for school. I rolled my eyes at her when she picked them off the racks, thinking there's no way was Josh going to wear them (he picks out his own clothing to wear). Proved me wrong, she did!

LOL, how funny. And even if you guys did dress up all the time, it is a funny thing for a 9 year old to think to ask for. My DD use to love to dress pretty, when I was more a jeans gal. Maybe it's because we don't dress up that they want to.

Hmmmm, very suspicious, I'd say. lol
I have a feeling there is a girl involved.
lol

My nephew went through a phase around that age. I think he wanted to look nice for a sweet little gal at school.

I'm just teasing about your son though....I do hope you scrap him with his tie when he gets it. (I'm sure you will.)

See, that's sounds like something my DS would ask for. He's just about 6. He got to wear a tie for my cousin's weddings last year and he thought he looked rather spiffy. It didn't hurt that every grandma that walked by told him so. We're jeans people, too. :)

I see scrapbook pages on their way. Have fun! :D

And if you get him one that really ties, he can be the only kid around that knows how to tie one. My son can tie his own. :D My daughter was doing a video for her lit comp class in high school and they were dressing up for one scene. She had to tie all the ties for the guys! Bob had showed her how to do a double Windsor once. We thought it was pretty funny.

That is so cute!!

My 9 year old was shopping with me the other day and picked out a tee shirt that LOOKS like a tux and cumberbund and tie. So of course his little brother wanted one too.
They both think they are the coolest teeshirts. LOL.
My husband couldn't believe I actually bought them.
It sure is funny what they come up with sometimes.
I'm just thrilled when they don't want to look like everyone else.

Is that bad? LOL.

Oh, that is funny! Kids that age just crack me up! Just wait until he's a father himself, and gets a tie for Father's Day, Christmas, etc. Then he won't want them anymore!

How cute and I must say I wish my son would want to 'dress up' some! But, at almost 14 I think at this point it will be awhile before that might happen! Enjoy it while you can!

You know, Charlene, I'm going to ask him. I bet you're right! Last year, he had such a crush on one girl in his class, but he's so shy and quiet that I could see him thinking of dressing up as a way to get her to notice that he stands out from the crowd.

That is adorable!! I don't think my 8 yr old would ever ask for a tie as a gift.

That's pretty cool. Kids have their own fashion sense pretty young. Once when I was shopping for summer playclothes with my GD (about 5 at the time) I held up a cute set with shorts, top and capris. Her mom thought it was adorable. Bailey said in this very serious little 5 year old voice " its not my style, Nana"

Well I suppose that this will be his first tie in a box. Definitely worthy of a page.
My boys like ties as we dress up once a week for church. I knit them matching ties once. Everyone at church loved it.

Too cute. Both of my boys like to dress up in button-down shirts, or polos. Our youngest (3) calls them "big boy" shirts.

a RED tie. I wonder if it is someone's favorite color? He's sure to catch her eye. I can't wait to see the LO(s).

That's so cute, Becca! My oldest is 7, and I can see him asking for a tie, but that's because he sees his dad in one when we go to church. He doesn't have many shirts that he can wear ties with, but he's always asking if he can. :P Can't wait to see the pictures!

I asked him this morning if he was trying to dress up to impress any particular girl, and he said "no, I didn't even think of that." He's such a strange child, but I told DH that there will definitely be a RED tie under the tree Christmas morning.

Well, don't you just have a snappy dresser? We were in Cody, Wyoming last summer and we were in this huge store with lots of cool things. My then 14 YO found a tie that he fell in love with (cowboys riding into a watercolor sunset type of thing) and he wears it to church at least twice a month. Who would have thought. . . ties. . .

The day of the school dance to be held that night, my Chris, my nothing but black pants, black shirts, dyed black hair Chris, said to me, "Oh, Mom I think I need a tux for the dance tonight. I want to look really nice for Kristen." AARRGH How do you get a tux at 4 pm on the eve of the dance? So, they decided they'd rather stay home anyway.....they change their minds like passing a hot potato!
