How Do You Make A Line In Cs 3

i am doing a recipe card and i want to make a line under the name of the recipe but i cant figure out how to make a line in cs3...i tried the rectangle shape and line tool...i can draw out a line but then nothing happens...it isnt even on a layer cause if i try to turn it off it doesnt go away..i had to go back to my history to get rid of it....and i cant fill it in with any color...help..if you can

There are couple of different ways you can make a line in CS3, Bobbie. What you were using was the Pen tool, which draws a *path*, but does not stroke that path. Once you draw the path, you need to go to your "path" palette and use "stroke path". Another way to draw a straight line without using paths is to use the brush tool and select a nice solid brush. Draw your line, holding down the shift key and it will be a nice and straight line.

Its funny, I was just thinking about this the other day when I was just playing with the pen tool, but got distracted and forgot about it. thanks for bringing this up Bobbie.

You can also use your marque tool like your talking about bobbie, but once you draw your rectangle or line, you need to make a new layer then fill that shape with a color. Then you'll have your line.

I use the line tool from time to time and don't have any problems.

Perhaps something that was selected needed to be deselected??? Otherwise I'm not sure why you're having problems.
