As I will be announcing in the newsletter in a little bit, the holiday for tomorrow that was selected is called the "Holiday of Me."

So here's what I wrote:

Here are the results of this contest. We had some fun entries and some of them made me laugh, some of them moved me and it was hard to pick.

My favorite's were two entries that were essentially the same idea. Here's what they said:

1. I was reading the newsletter and thought of this holiday, probably because I bought ascrapbooking book yesterdy and today I feel a little guilty for having spent the money on something like that. Well, maybe I should make this a holiday and once a year tradition and I wouldn't feel guilty about it if it were a holiday.

It's "For me day"

Today I can buy the one (and only one) thing that I desperatly want buy can't justify buying.
Today is that day when I don't need an excuse, I can buy it because it's "For me day"
The date: March 24th

This one came from Amanda

2. I would like to propose the Holiday of Me. I suppose, theoretically, that's what a birthday is supposed to be, but it doesn't turn out that way. It's about other people focusing on you, and it isn't always very genuine. No, in spite of all the hype about the "me" generation, and the "me" society, I don't think that very many people are comfortable with taking the time to celebrate the uniqueness of who they are -- or feeling they have the permission do to so. We might briefly celebrate our successes, but we never celebrate the essence of who we are....and that's a concept worth both celebration and reflection at least once a year! And that's my 2 cents! - Jan

---------

Now, I liked that idea because I tend to get lost in work and what I am trying to do for everybody else. I guess I am ready for a ME day!

So let's do it! Let's take a day tomorrow and do stuff that we have been putting off doing for ourselves. Then let's report here what we did and if we do layouts about our thoughts and experiences, we can post them to the gallery and link to them so show each other.

I have some ideas of what I might be doing. Let's see if I can actually pull it off!

Today I sat at my computer to learn how to use my GIMP program. I printed off tutorial and made 2 background pages. Well. I learned a couple of things ... don't put shadows on backgrounds. I will probably use them to mat pictures. Later I am going to go thru the tuts and create. I also made a page about me which I have never done before.

Today I had to be responsible and go into the office, but even that didn't stop me from indulging in the "Holiday of Me". I make a quick detour to The Other Side (a second hand/thrift/rummage shop owned by my former neice-in-law) and picked up the silver and Lapis ring I saw a few weeks ago but didn't buy. It's now on my finger and will match the other lapis pieces I've collected over the last few months that I'll wear tonight when I take myself to see a local production of King Lear.

Now I'm off to change...

Lovin' this holiday thing, :). Today when I told dh about our holiday, he thought it was a great idea. Says we should make it a point to put it on our calendars for the years to come, ;). So anyhow, today I've bought myself lots of wonderful things. Too much to list for sure, ;). Tomorrow we must go grocery shopping, but only after we go over to the mall so I can pick something up that's a bit more special, :). Will share that with you all later in a layout somehow, :). This "For Me Day" is really a wonderful thing, ;).

To have a friend is to have a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold and an extra pair of legs when yours are too weak to stand alone...

I have been living buried in books and writing classes... as an added note I must say that it is rather scary when you start dreaming and all you can see within your dreams is words floating everywhere!

I went back to bed this morning after dh got up (I always have to get up with the toddler! lol) and slept till after noon! woohoo! lol had donuts for brunch (bad bad for the diet! lol) and then played around on my computer till the big dinner out with the ILs. dd cooperated nicely and fell asleep in the car on the way home and (knock on wood!) is still sleeping nicely an hour later. lets hope that holds because I'm about ready to finish one layout that I'm very excited about (I learned some new tricks!) and have several more planned. I think I can get 4 layouts finished tonight!! thats the goal!! lol I didn't go buy my book tho..have to do that next week! lol
