I downloaded a trial of Carbonite after reading some of you really liked it. I have 166 GB of files I want to keep. This is scrapping materials and photos. According to carbonite, it only backs up 2-3 GB a day. Oh my gosh, it would take almost TWO months just to do the initial backup.

Did any of you run into this problem? I really don't want to wait two months for a secure back up.

Any more suggestions?

Marnie, I had about that much data to back up initially as well. I forgot how long it took to finish the initial back up but yes, it did take some time. However, once that initial backup is done, new or revised files are seemed to be backed up rather quickly. Also, you can specify which files or folders you want backed up as soon as possible. I've never noticed a drag in Internet speed because of Carbonite. Plus, it was reassuring to know that my files WERE being backed up.

HI Marnie, I had around 135 GB to back up too and I think it took over a week for it to complete the initial back up, it could have been a little over a week but not too much, but like Thao said once that is done it doesn't take any time at all to run the back ups. Thank goodness I haven't had to use the service yet , and hopefully I won't have to. But, I am very pleased just knowing that its being taken care of.. Good luck

I think they tell you that as a worse case scenario as I know mine did not take that long. I did let it run overnight etc as I wanted it done quickly also.

Mine i think took about 3 days. But i left my computer on over night. I turned off all the "shut down hd" etc things and ran it with the screen saver and monitor off. That way at night it got alot done!

I don't know how much I had to back up (it was last March maybe)...it seemed like it took a week or something. Somewhere in there, I had a little malfunction or something and discovered through Len (the resident Carbonite guy lol) that my transfer had been turned off. He got it going again.

Now, I have peace of mind!

I don't remember how much I had to be backed up initially but it took just about a week. It's really a pretty painless process. Carbonite works in the background. I left my computer on all night also. I still highly recommend it. It saved me from losing a whole bunch of scrapping files once so far and I know a lot of people here on Scrap Girls that it has saved more than once.

I used Carbonite and I believe that it took several days to complete the backup and that was with the computer on 24 hours a day. Once the initial backup is complete all backups will be short. And Len from Carbonite is wonderful and always there when you have a question, and I've had several since going over to Vista with my new computer. Anyway, I needed to restore when my old computer crashed and I'm so glad that I had Carbonite to turn to. I know that you will love it once your backup is all done.

It depends upon how fast your computer is, how much data you have and how fast your Internet connection is. Mine two a couple of weeks because I have a lot of stuff. But once it is backed up, you never notice that it is running unless you look at the dots. Love green dots... It means files are backed up!

I am on day 13 and about 35% backed up (I have about 30 G to back up). Doesn't help that I keep adding stuff during the process ;) I am backing up 2 computers at once and don't know if that affects it (the other computer, which I use less is at 45%). The only thing it's really negatively affecting is my ability to use VONAGE without a severe delay, but I can choose a lower baud rate transfer and it helps. Once it's all backed up, I plan on setting Carbonite to only backup during the late night. It's taking a long time, but I think it's DEFINITELY worth the peace of mind I feel!!
