Initially for the wall treatment we were going to paint the girls bedroom a soft green color and add some hand painted Japanese writing around the room as like a border in black. This was agreed upon by both girls, ages 9 and 13. While they still like the idea, they've changed their minds once more. The wall treatment plan has changed. They still want the soft green shade on the wall, as well as using black paint for the accents, so the accent around the walls have changed. Instead of wanting the Japanese writing going around the room, they have been talking about wanting some silhouettes of guitars. I've made it clear that whatever they decide upon must be inspirational to both girls. I know and understand that they both love music, but how would the guitar silhouettes actually inspire them? This was the question I asked them. Their answer was simple enough. "We want to learn to play guitar." My 9 year old quickly added "and I still want that Hannah Montana guitar that Santa forgot to bring me for Christmas." That was cute. I'm hoping their idea doesn't change once again. In hopes of that, I've set out to put them to work on a trial basis of the silhouettes. Using a roll of large brown paper I'm going to have them cut out some different guitar shapes and tape them to their wall for a bit beforehand. If it changes I can easily take it down and the wall hasn't been touched so it won't be like I have to do any changes on a more difficult level (although painting isn't really that difficult). The problem being, their new bed sets are a soft shade of pink! Do I try and talk them out of a soft green and into a soft shade of pink instead? Or do I just leave it at the soft shade of green and allow the bedding sets to remain the same? I've not started buying anything more for their room other than their bedding. Unsure of what all I will be able to find as far as guitar shapes but I do have some ideas I'm sure I could talk their dad into building for them. Possibly a couple of guitar and guitar pick shaped shelves? Anyone have any other ideas they could share?

To have a friend is to have a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold and an extra pair of legs when yours are too weak to stand alone...
I have been living buried in books and writing classes... as an added note I must say that it is rather scary when you start dreaming and all you can see within your dreams is words floating everywhere!

I personally love pink and green together- so that works for me
What about musical notes, the sheet music likes and cleffs, if you search music here you might come up with some great ideas (even some brushes to use as wall templates!) If you like, you could tie the pink and green together with a rug or curtains or pillows. Can't wait to see what you come up with...

You could possibly have a place to hang their actual guitars on the wall. They could hang by the shoulder strap. That way they would be easy for the girls to get at for practice and be decorative.
I like the idea of the green walls with the pink bedding. Maybe tie the two colors together with some throw pillows and/or paint the shelves those colors. Sounds like fun.

Love the idea about sheet music. I only have piano sheet music, but getting a small book of guitar sheet music can't cost all that much. I wonder how it would look framed with the edges of it aged. I think that's a great idea for art work to mat and frame. The pink is so soft on their bedding that I think the green should still work well with them. I was thinking that for their closet (which has no door and is mainly used for toys) I could cover the doorway with a thick black curtain and add some guitar pics to the top in the soft pinks and greens to go with their bedding and wall color? Gathering ideas for their room has me keeping a notebook full of them as they come. The more the better.

I think you could use Thao's new dynamic brush music as a template for different music embellies in the room to go with the guitars. Maybe you could paint some of them in pink, cream and black. You could possibly have the girls help you paint too as they will feel ownership and will be more likely to stick with theme since they know the work that goes into it. You may be able to find sheet music or even lyrics of inspirational songs that you could make look aged and then framed (you might be able to find the lyrics and create a cool scrap page and frame it) or have the girls pick a certain inspiring lyric and have it painted on one wall. I like the guitar picks, maybe you could do one of the "bead curtains" with guitar picks mixed in? Just seen this by Christy V!!! I think it could work as their closet door, or instead of painting all of that trim you could do this and change out the pictures every so often as their styles change or when they wanted to add something new.

What I've come up with so far!

I was thinking of doing something like Christy did around the top of the wall for my 13 yr old to be able to display some of her awesome anime artwork. I found some clips that aren't the teethed type, they have rubber covering the ends so her art work won't get damaged. Her birthdays the 28th and I'm wanting to get her an artist easel and more drawing supplies. I got her a few pieces of drawing canvas for Christmas and I was in awe at what she did with them, of course she is so modest about her talent. I'm going to stick with the soft green, it's such a pretty shade. For some extra artwork she's going to draw on a few guitar pick shaped pieces of canvas. I'm also going to do a couple of guitar pick shaped free floating shelves where they can set a few of their favorite cd's on. They both really liked the idea.
