I am looking into going to this year's convention but was wondering where the closest hotel is located. I would rather not have to rent a car and wanted to check pricing so I can make a decision if I can go or not. Can anyone that went last year tell me where they stayed and how they got to the convention each day?

Thanks!

Allison

I would say get your reservation at The Guest House, that way you are right there. I know there are hotels close by, but I don't know the distances. The prices aren't too bad at The Guest House .. I would say this is your best bet ! You can share a room with some of the girls , I know some already have made posts about roomates. That way it reduces your cost for your room rate !! HTH

At the Guest House, if you get a room with 2 queens ($89 a night) you can sleep 4 in them if you don't mind sharing a bed.

This is the information we had last year regarding this. Now i've taken out all the prices as they were last years room rates, and you'll need to contact them to get current prices:

----------------------

4. Here is information about transportation to the event. This link also includes information about getting to and from the airport.

http://www.guesthous...nsportation.htm

5. Here is information about accommodations:

A.

http://www.guesthous...ah.edu/book.htm

There is a hotel within close walking distance on the campus. There are limited rooms. They are $XX a night. You can share, but you'll have to ask what kind of beds are available. You can get more in a room if someone wants to sleep in a sleeping bag. There isn't room for a roll-away bed. If three are in there, it is $XX. Continental breakfast comes with the room.

If you choose this option, tell them you are with the Scrap Girls event. They will ask for a credit card to hold your room, but you won't be charged for it until you stay. Ask them for the complete scoop when you book.

You can check with your Scrap Girls friends want to bunk together to lower costs.

B.

Here are some other options:

There are links to Expedia ratings of these hotels so you could see traveler reviews and ratings of the properties. Chase Suites and Howard Johnson are located within one block of the Trax (train line) and goes directly to the University of Utah near the event location. You would need to take either a shuttle or taxi to your hotel upon arrival and then could ride the train to the event location each day so no rental car would be necessary.

I stayed at the Marriot last year, but not really close enough to walk. I just got a reservation at the guest house and they were getting calls so I'd call right away. I waited too long last year and couldn't get in there. Its just a hop, skip and jump away from the meeting building. And breakfast and a common area that was great for hanging out and getting some great fun time in.

The guest house told me it was $89.00 for one or two people. Anymore and it would be $92.00. If it matters. They said the ScrapGirls rate was $92.00 since usually people have the extra people in their rooms.

I had made my reservation for just two people. My Dh and I. Or a roommate and I, if he doesn't go...that was before I knew there was a special ScrapGirl rate. And that was the info they gave me. I just left my reservation as it was.

A "special" higher rate? That is funny. Last year we just had two in our room. I just a room reserved online last night.

I know, April. I had made my reservation for two online. Then heard there was a "special" rate for ScrapGirls. So I called them. I asked her the same thing...about the special rate being higher. She said because there is usually more people in the room.

Using up extra water or electricity, I suppose? Or more breakfasts? lol

Or just don't mention ScrapGirls.
Gasp!
I don't like the sound of that sentence.
lol

If it's just two of you...probably don't use the special rate. lol Or ask them about it, I suppose.

The rate for one or two people in a room is not a higher rate. They do charge extra for more than that, but the extra is actually not a higher rate than you would pay for a non SG event with extra people. Almost all hotels charge extra for extra people for the reasons you guys already gave ie. water, electricity, towels and breakfast. Believe me, these are really great rates, even if you have to pay for extra people.

And it's a really nice hotel! I loved the Guest House. There wasn't anything I didn't like about it actually. I'm pretty sure the rate last year was $89 for 2 people and $10 extra per person up to 4 people total. So if you have 4 people it's $109 regularly so the $92 SG rate is actually good if you plan on having more than 2 in a room. It's literally 2 buildings away from the event center. The only thing in between is a small church so it's perfect distance. If you choose one of the other hotels you can also take the TRAK line which stops just down the hill from the event center. Honestly though ... all the action that's not at the convention will be at the Guest House so book there if you can. :D I'll see you there!

I stayed at the Chase Suites last year.
It was an OK hotel, and right on the Trax - just a short ride and walk to the convention.
But this year I'm staying at the Guesthouse!

I was just thinking if you're only doing 2 in the room the SG special is a little more. The special is a good deal if you're having a lot of you in a room.
