MargotW
I am probably over backed up if that is possible! I have a Passport EHD which has my scrappping supplies and pictures. I have a Home Essential EHD which I use as a back up drive ****** well as I am backing up to Backblaze. My Passport was making clunking noises and I am trying a new cord. Amazon had a sale on a WD Passport 500 GB. so I got it so I would be sure not to run out of space for a while. All that said, here is my problem. I went to do a backup the other day and chose my Passport by mistake. Here is the message I received on both my Passport and My Home EHD "backup disk has a corrupted file system. Fix using disk error check tool" I cannot find a disk error check tool on Vista. Is there a good one to use? Also, if I transfer my current Passport items to the larger Passport am I also transferring the problem? TIA

erincassell
There is such a tool in Vista. I was able to find an explanation of this tool and its location with screenshots on the web: http://www.vista4beginners.com/Check-Disk The answer to your second question...not usually if there are no applications involved. If they are simply files, than the error has to do with the hard drive space itself and not what is on it. If I was in your shoes, this is what I would do: 1. Backup everything on the drive (reads like you have that well under control) 2. Run the check disk tool and try to have Vista fix your hard drive If it is successful, then you are good to go! If it is not successful, then you can reformat your drive. (I promise that it is not as scary as it sounds!) Reformatting your hard drive will usually clean up any hard drive problems you might have. Then you will be able to start using it again. Hope that information is helpful!
