Hello Everyone!

I was blown away on Valentines Day, DH surprised me with a Wacom Bamboo Tablet. Now, I am wondering if any desingers / layout artists / members alike would share with me some of your layouts where you have used your tablet in a special way- or different things you like to use it.

I've played with it in both Adobe Photoshop and a little in Illustrator. I've written my name probably a thousand times, but am still trying to get used to writing. I've drawn out type paths which was really fun and used the Dynamic Brush- Stiches too.

I need insperation on ways to use my new tablet, and know you girls will share with me some great layouts and helpful tips!

Thanks in advance!

OOOOH! & please forgive me because this is a couple days late- but THANK YOU so much for putting my Valentine Candy Bars in Saturday's newsletter, that made my morning!

Oh how nice Audrey. I got one not too long ago. I love it. I've used it for journaling on LOs, not having much luck with type paths, can't keep it straight there. use it for navigation all the time now instead of the mouse, and use it for taking notes during classes in something that comes in Vista, I think journal. I'm just learning about it too, but don't know how I managed without it all these years.

Oh you will love it once you get the hang of it. I use it for everything. I paint, fix photos, draw, etc... everything you can do with a pencil i do. keep practicing and you will find even more things to do with it than you thought you could do.

here is the link to one of my photos i used the pen on. i painted a butterfly on my nieces face. http://scrapgirls.com.ipbhost.com/index.ph...i&img=58429

I'm interested to see the answers. My DH gave me one for Christmas and I haven't had much chance to play with it yet. Big learning curve!

I also got one for Christmas and haven't played with it much...I'm intimidated. I keep telling myself I'm going to get it out and play, but just haven't yet.

Congrats on your new toy! I hope you get off to a running start with it and maybe I'll catch up soon!

You will love your new bamboo tablet! I've sure enjoyed mine.

I still use my mouse, cuz sometimes copy and paste and right clicks are just a little easier for me.

Anytime I extract I use the tablet now! Way Way easier :D Also, anytime I want to doodle on a page I use the tablet.

You can see an example here.

The other thing that was so much easier with the tablet is as you can see on the writing in this LO, to change the colors of the

texting it is so much easier to use the tablet.... Like when I did This Layout....I wanted the look of an art journal so I scanned in my writing and

then recolored the words! OMGoodness, what a total pain to do with the mouse....If I had a tablet then it would have been

much easier......Sometimes I just get too darn tedious :D :D

So, for me now, I always use my tablet for the 'tedious' stuff and the extractions.

Have fun :D

p.s. It's a total blast to play SPIDER with my tablet pen...... just tap, tap, tap! LOL :D

My advice would be to set it up and remove your mouse. Only use the tablet for everything. You will learn so fast that way and find that the mouse feels clumsy after awhile. It is great for precise blending, drawing (this technique is based on Shalae's class from the convention last year), and extracting. Journaling definitely and titles. Hand drawing with the dynamic brushes is so fun. My favorite Dynamic brush is Thao's Drawing because it makes a wonderful journaling brush. It makes your handwriting look like calligraphy without effort. I also programmed the fn1 and fn2 to shift and ctrl buttons which make it easier to scrap without the keyboard as much.

I have had my tablet for just over a year now and couldn't imagine using photoshop without it. I hope all these examples inspire you. You can look through my LO's because I have used my tablet since I got it.

Much like Sara & Eden, I use my tablet for everything (with the minor exception of typing and just a few other things)! I haven't used a mouse in over 3 months.

I love Thao's drawing brush and like Sara said, it really does make even the worst handwriting look beautiful! I have also programmed my function buttons for shift and control as well. I can't direct you to anything specific because I simply use it for so many things. I use it for detailed outlines that I want to use glitter or a style on and I use it alot with extracting things with the lasso tool.

Also, I am left handed and using the tablet with my dominant hand has really helped since I can be much more precise than I would with a mouse.

Congrats! Have fun!

Sara! Thank YOU so much for taking the time to link to all of those layouts. It is very helpful to see examples! I am taking out my mouse right now and plugging my pen back in. I bought it months ago and haven't even used it! I put Thao's dynamic brush in my cart. Thanks for helping me shop too!

I just realized I hadn't posted anything yet with Thao's brush so here is the envelope for DH's Valentine card. It uses Thao's drawing dynamic brush and Erica's Paintstroke dynamic brush (another of my favorites) which I used to "paint" Mickey Mouse heads in my disneyland album.

Oh my! The Paintstroke Brushes just fell into my shopping cart!

Hey Audrey!

So glad you got a tablet! I still don't use mine as much as I wanted to...but like I said earlier, I haven't been scrapping very much lately, either. :(

Here's an example of an easy tablet use... I needed to draw some curvy lines so I grabbed the tablet. I was able to set my sensitivity to change the size of the brush with my pen pressure. Here's the result

Here's how I first used the tablet... This is a kind of journaling. I've found that when I'm trying to write things, it's a lot easier to do it on a seperate page that I can totally blow up the size of my writing. It's a lot easier to write "neat" if you're writing bigger instead of smaller.

Hey...and my christmas card?? that's an example of what I did with writing our names over and over and over. :D

It's the same tablet as the bamboo it just comes with some extra scrapbook goodies.

I found this website for my DS who wants to learn cursive and was thinking that I could use the images as practice within photoshop. You could download the blank sheets for writing on. Just write on a layer on top and then drag into your LO or practice on the practice sheets on it's on layer. It would be reusable. The site is free for non-profit use. handwritingforkids.com

I have had my Bamboo for about a year and used it off and on, but I just finished two LOs of my DD and used it totally, and WOW I didn't really realize how much easier it makes things...especially like coloring flowers and different things on templates. I will be putting the LOs in the gallery soon and will come back and link it here (if I remember how too, lol), but I really love to use it. I think you will love it once you start using it all the time instead of the mouse...it really is a great tool!

Just wondering - when handwriting, do you use the brush tool or the pencil tool? I haven't been very successful with this. Are there any tips out there?

Any help will be appreciated!

I am in the same boat. Mine comes out all shaky. Any tips? :tinkerbell:

Very cool. I copied into a 12x12 & enlarged it. Awesome idea Jara. :thanks:

So silly question? Do you guys turn your tablet like you do when you write on paper? :tinkerbell:

When I'm writing on it I do turn it like paper, and move it more in front of me, just like I would. It took a little practice and I have to write a little slower than usual and a little larger, but it comes out ok. Here is a page for SG 52 that I used it for journaling. It was a little sloppy, just like it is when I write a note on the white board in the kitchen. It is very realistic here.

I haven't tried to change a tip yet Amy. Have you looked at the tutorial that came with it or checked the Bamboo site online? If you find out, please share.

A benefit with using the pen over the mouse is less overuse/carpal tunnel sorts of aches and pains than with the mouse, especially if you are using for long periods of time.

I'll have to look again. It's been a while, but as I recall I wasn't able to find it there. When we were in SLC I asked around, and no one knew there either. Maybe I'll have to go to the website and poke around. My intuos 3 came with a whole set of nibs that are just sitting here unused.

Thank you so much for the great responses.

I have taken so many of ya'll's advice....Sara, I have turned off my wireless mouse and using only my tablet! I am also left handed Ang, so its nice to use my dominant hand on the computer for once!! And, all of you who have shared your layouts, thank you so much!

I worked on my first layout last night with my tablet, I feel so free! I've got a bit more to do on it then I will share it!

I'm afriad I do not like the way my handwriting looks, not one bit. :( But, I'm just going to keep trying. Do any of you turn your grids on for writing? I'm having a problem keeping it straight, lol. I also get the urge to angle my tablet too.

So, I guess...its obvious, I'm still a little overwhelmed, but having fun none the least!

Oh, and I drew the shamrock on my siggy. ;)

Audrey,

Your handwritting will improve the more you use the tablet and get used to the tablet workspace. I used to have to watch my hand when I wrote stuff with my tablet...I don't have to do that anymore and my writing has improved immensely!
