Suggestions For Printables?

I do a lot of card making and was wondering if you experts have any suggestions for the best way to print ScrapGirls papers to use for card and other projects. I've looked through the site for tutorials, but if they're there I haven't found them. Specifically, I'd like to know what is the best kind of paper to print on for this? Do you have a favorite cardstock, a favorite paper (what wgt and brand, etc)? I'd like to be able to stamp on it once I've attached it to a card so I've found that my glossy photo paper doesn't work too well, although I seem to get the most vivid colors when using glossy photo paper. Also, do you use a fixative on it once you've printed it out? I'd also like to be able to use it for altered clipboards. I've made some altered clipboards using Basic Grey papers and they have worked well. However, I have so many beautiful Scrap Girls papers I'd like to be able to use them as well. I'm thinking Thao's Earthen Vessel papers would be fantastic for altered clipboards.

Anyway, enough of my babble. I'd really like to hear from all of you about how you use ScrapGirls papers for printable projects and what printing medium is your choice of choices.

I HAVE FOUND THAT IF I USE "EXACT INDEX" HEAVY CARD STOCK PAPER, I CAN PRINT A GREAT DESIGN, BUT I ALSO STAMP, BEAD AND USE GLITTER AND THE PAPER HOLDS UP BEAUTIFULLY. B :2468who-do-we-appreciate:

I like Epson heavyweight papers. i've inked them, sanded them, applied glitter, they hold up well and all the papers here print really well, they look better printed, in my opinion.

i do go for saturation on my epson printer.....i have finished cards you can see in the boutique where i have done these things....will hunt them down, might give you some ideas.

Pat,

I like using Printworks Matte Photo paper or Canon Matte Photo Paper and get the same great results from either. I printed out papers and embellishments from my Peace On Earth Collection to make these prayer journals as Christmas gifts this year. I added glitter and gold ink and they really did look wonderful.

Cheryl's stuff looks great, so does Mandy's---you'll find lots here. Jan Hicks did a great altered paint can and some other stuff as well, my mind is too crowded today, but I know someone has done clipboards.

Anyway, here's links in the boutique to photos of cards where I printed them out and used different materials and techniques, it's detailed on the image, just enlarge:

Cheryl, thanks for the info on printing. Your prayer journals are beautiful. Where do you find Canon Matte Photo paper? I have a Canon printer, and I'm thinking that might be the best choice for me.

how ironic, i just a few minutes ago posted a printable that my GS and i made for him last week, and then come to the message board and see this thread.

i do most of my printable, cards, and crafts on Georgia Pacific cardstock i get at WamMart. they used to have a coated one that was wonnnnnderful, but they discontinuied it, go figure! i like their regular cardstock as well as any i've tried, takes ink well too. for anything photo i only use HP Premium Plus Matte.

Pat, wish I had access to my PC but it's sick right now so I can't access my bookmarks to give you the link where I get it from but I did poke around online for you and you can get 50 sheet packs at at databazar for $9.74 each if you buy more than one... and there is free shipping on all orders. It's $10.04 if you buy only one package. If you have a CompUSA near you you can get it there too for about the same price if I remember right.

I'd also encourage you to check out the printworks brand. It's a little bit lighter weight, but is excellent for printables. Best Buy sells a 100 sheet package for around $15

Cheryl, I love your prayer journals. I covered chipboard and decorated it for a planner for myself. How did you get the new holes in your covers so nicely cut? I was drilling through my chipboard with a Dremel and my holes aren't as "crisp" as yours. Do tell!

ScrapGirls Printables are pretty much one of my best friends anymore, ;). I've been using them for tons of different things. Been working on printing out the different papers and some of the embellishments and adhering them to one of those huge bin type buckets with a lid for Cola considering her toys are growing along with her she needed an upgrade from the round buckets she's had and she is loving helping mommy make a mess with the glue. Also, I like using the printables for making cards and also like printing the embellishments and using them on all sorts of things as well. Some of the things I've done with the embellishments alone is make cards, collages, calendars, deco'd up some paper treat bags, used them for a more 3-d type gift bag as well as wrapping paper. I've used the printables for making magnets, iron ons and so much more. The possibilities are truly pretty much endless. I'm really bad at starting a few projects at the same time, so it takes me a lot longer than it should to get them finished, lol.
I usually by the Georgia-Pacific card stock and print them on that. I've sanded and done so much with that card stock that it's honestly a bit funny. I get 150 sheets of it for around 4 bucks.
For the magnets I usually use magnetic sheets of paper that is Avery.
I've also printed out some of the papers onto sheets of fabric and plan to use those for a special wall hanging, eventually I be able to find my sewing machine petal and get it going too.
Like I said though, the possibilities are truly endless. :)

Susan, I used a Xyron machine to evenly cover the back of my paper with adhesive, attached it to the front of the notebook and then cut each square out individually with a craft knife before wrapping the extra 1 inch of the paper around to the backside and then cut out each square again. Had to do one side at a time so I could see the holes. This is how I got very close to the edges of the holes. I also changed my blade as soon as it started to tug at the paper which prevented me from having too many little tears and gave me cleaner edges. I also inked the holes before I put the wire back through... this toned down the stark white of the hole edges and helped them to blend in better. I had hoped to find notebooks that I could use where I wouldn't have to take them apart and cover the part where the wire was but couoldn't so I had to cover the entire thing.
