Heart Of America

For all of you in the heartland, I would love to have a get together this spring near Kansas City. I live in Lee's Summit, on the east side of the KC metro area. I have a really crazy schedule and have to plan out quite a ways in advance, so I thought I would start making plans now. I had a work conflict the last time you all got together in the St. Louis area so I'm really wanting to have us get together again on this side of the state. I know we're about 4 hours from Omaha, 4 hours from Witchita, 5 hours from Sioux City and Des Moines and about 3 or 4 from St Louis and Springfield, MO. I can get a room at one of the local hotels (Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Comfort Inn, etc,) all close by. I bet we could get a few rooms reserved as well. I know of at least 5 local SGs and I have a couple of friends I'd like to invite to join us to convert to digi scrapping. I've checked my calendar and the second weekend in May would work the best for me. How about all of you? Do you think you could make it? What kind of things do you want to do? There's everything in the world available close at hand, from the Country Club Plaza, great restaurants and shopping to beautiful parks and gardens and quaint old towns (old downtown Lee's Summit has lots of great little shops). Or we can just gab and scrap all weekend. I know I won't need firm commitments just yet, but if I could get a rough idea how many are interested I can start checking out sites.

Oh, Sandi -- now I am torn! I would LOVE to do this, but we've been talking for nearly a year about going to the Tulip Festival in Pella IA that very weekend. I'll have to watch this thread and see what happens. After all, tulips bloom every year, but a SG get-together! . . . decisions, decisions.

Ok, looks like we are on. Keep me posted. I have to do it either the first or second weekend and Christy (cwaller) can only do it the second weekend. After that one of my partners may be taking paternity leave, so gotta do it one of those two weekends. cast your vote. Audrey, you NEED to come visit your relatives, don't you? And stop for a weekend of scrapping.

Depending on the dates, I may be able to make it.

Sandi, like you, I have to plan my work schedule about 8 weeks in advance...darn patients anyway....

I will be watching to see what the specific dates are and go from there!

I've never been to a crop before. Now I'm getting excited!

And Audrey....I think your Iowa relatives miss you!

Great idea Sandi!! I would love to get together and meet new people!! But a lot of it will depend on the weekend you choose. I have my brother's college graduation the weekend of May 15-17.

Audrey, you need to make a trip up this way!!

Gina, I might take you up on the carpool offer :-)

Just got word that the wedding I might be playing is May 9th, that's the second weekend. I still have to contact the bride to see if she accepts my fee and stuff.

If it works out, maybe we Nebraska girls can carpool.

If the weekend works for me, I can drive in from western NE. I have a sister in Omaha, so that would be a good stopping off point and a chance to visit her too. I would love to meet people and get a chance to scrap. I will watch the thread closely too and see what happens. I want to get to Omaha for the theatre sometime in May, but will have my dd with me and so can't just piggy back off that trip.

This sounds like a lot of fun and I would love to come. However, (1) I believe it is the weekend of the Pella Tulip Festival which is a family favorite, (2) I am going to a digital scrapbook retreat the second weekend in March, and (3) I am planning on attending another digital scrapbook retreat the third weekend in June. I'm not sure DH would be in favor of another weekend away with the girls.

I'll keep it in mind though. Now if there was a train collector's extravaganza the same weekend in the KC area, I know we would both come--me to scrap and him to buy trains.

Ok everybody, the first weekend in May we are going to get together. I'll make the arrangements this week so an approximate head count would be great. I'll fill you in on the details as I get them. Will plan a crop for the 2nd, but if you want to make a whole weekend of it we can do that too. That way maybe some of you a little further out can come for the whole weekend. I'll see what kind of room rates I can get for us. I'll meet with the hotel manager for the room and such on Thursday so by Friday I'll have more definite info. I can't wait to see everyone and hope you all can make it.

I'm still checking on meeting places. I thought Blue Springs, Independence, or Lee's Summit. I've got a couple of other places to check out. It'd be cool if you St. Louis areas ladies could carpool. All three of these communities are right off I-70 on the Eastern edge of KC. They all sort of come together in one area. I'm looking as close to the highway as I can so it'll be easy to get to. We have several places to choose from, so I'm pricing it out. I was going to go tomorrow, but got called in to work. I'll do as much as I can with my fingers doing the walking.

I am so sad that I can't make it that weekend. It is my in-law's 50th wedding anniversary party on the 3rd. We have been planning it for months. I am working on the album for their party. I have posted many of the layouts in the gallery. The party will be great...but, I am SO SAD to miss the time with you guys :(

Don't have TOO much fun without me. I will see many of you in October in SLC!!!!

You betcha Sue! I haven't decided when to leave yet. I'll wait to decide when Sandi has more particulars pinned down. I've got a spare bedroom if you want to drive in and spend the night - coming and/or going.

I'm sad too Lynn, that you won't be able to come. :(

Thanks for the bedroom offer, but since my sister is there, I will stay with her if need be. Don't want to upset the sister. LOL I told her about this already and she thinks it sounds like a great weekend plan and she thinks we will have a great time meeting up in KC or whatever. She gets together with some of her sis's and they plan weekends away from home. She is paper scrapper through and through, but I keep working on her. Will just watch the board and she what Sandi comes up with. I am relatively flexible for when I can leave here and return home. Retirement allows that. :)

I am so bummed. I had this weekend all planned out in my head. I was going to do it all, the weekend, see my sister, go to Wicked in Omaha - and then I double checked my calendar. A daughter of a very good friend is getting married on the 2nd. I cannot miss that wedding. It will be lovely and wonderful and I will get to see lots of people I care about. However, a part of me wants to be with my SG friends and scrapping that weekend. This may really push me towards the Convention. Pat, I am so sorry. I was looking so forward to meeting you and traveling to KS. I hope you all have a great time and share some photos and layouts.

I'm sure there is still plenty of room. All comers welcome! Right Sandi?

Sue, I'm so sorry that you can't make it. We'll have to make arrangements to get together another time or just meet up in SLC.

Angie, do you want to carpool?
