Paper Scrapper Looking To Go Digi

Recommended Posts

I am an avid scrapper - been doing it for a few years now, but so far only used paper and tape. I love the end results.... but the mess it makes is not so lovely. My supplies are taking over my house and it's costing me a fortune.

I was never convinced that digi can produce as effective results as paper but I have seen fantastic stuff on line - as good or sometimes even better than paper.

But, I know absolutely NOTHING about digital. I have PSE5, but that's about it.

Any hints and tips on getting started.

Hi there!! First off, welcome to ScrapGirls! You found a wonderful place to help fuel your new hobby. Digital has so many benefits over Paper scrapbooking -- but, of course, Paper scrapbooking has a few advantages over digital. Paper is tactile -- wheras digital is not. You won't miss the mess, nor will you miss the buy-an-embellishment-once-and-never-use-it-again. W/ digital embelishments & papers, you can reuse, reuse!! Recoloring is great.

That said, I used PSE5 for a few years, and loved it. It's a wonderful program. A great way to get started is by watching Ro's Scrapbook Secrets Revealed for PSE5. It's is a step-by-step walkthrough on how to get up and going in Photoshop Elements. It's great! My mom is using it, and she is creating some great layouts -- wheras only a few months ago, she didn't know the first thing about Photoshop. I highly recommend it. Or, you can do it like I did, and just learn it through trial and error -- that works, too. :) It just takes longer. Get a project that you're excited about -- a book for one of your kids, a vacation album, etc., and start scrapbooking.

Have fun!! Don't hesitate to ask questions - we're here to help!

Welcome. A lot of us started as paper scrappers and some never intended to go digital..but it is sooo addictive that it just takes you over and you are forever turned to the dark side! ;) And you will love it. There is no place on the internet better to learn! This is the most active MB I have ever found. It is awesome to have a question, post it and before you can refresh your page...someone is already working on a answer for you!

You've gotten some great tips so far. Remember to ask your questions on the message board. We've all been new so there are no dumb questions. And we love to help so ask away! PSE5 is a great program to start with so once you get the hang of a few techniques you'll be unstoppable! I love digi because clean-up is a breeze (just turn off my computer) and it keeps my little kids fingers away from sissors. Even though I CAN spend a fortune on supplies, I don't have to because I can reuse every tiny supply an infinite number of times and I can recolor them at my slightest whim! There are things you can do with digital, blending, fading, sketching, etc. that you just can't do with paper and I love all of those things! You will too! Welcome to digital, and :welcome2: to Scrap Girls! I look forward to getting to know you!

Welcome to Scrap Girls! The other girls have given you great links to start with. I also love the look of real paper and materials, but you'll be amazed at what you can do with digital tools! Definitely check out the gallery and newsletter for inspiration.

Hi and welcome

I use PSE5 and its a great programme to start with. Have to say though that I might have thrown in the towel if it wern't for Ro's secrets. I was getting very frustrated trying to work out the programme on my own - should have got the secrets weeks before I did.

Anyway, I've never looked back and havn't touched a piece of paper for months. Even my 8 year old is using elements now.

Theres a sale on in the boutique so its a good time to dip your toe in the water

have fun and happy scrapping

Thanks everyone for your comments. I've downloaded the 15 Things You Need To Know e-book and it's extremely informative.

I'm a bit reluctant to get the Secrets for PSE5 because I'm starting a small photography course in May and you get PSE6 at the start of it so I'll wait until I have that and then get the Secrets for PSE6.

In the meantime I'll have a bit of a lookaround in the shop and see what kind of digital stuff is available.

Oh and a little bit about me: My name is Judith, I live in London, England. I am married with a delicious 4 year old son named Eli. He is the focus of my scrapping.

Thanks again and I look forward to the digital world and a clean house :)

That's what you think now! My house cleaning gets put behind all the digi-scrapping!! LOL!

Welcome Judith! Its great to have another Brit on here :) We have a few as well as some Aussies and New Zealanders. The Scrap Girls Purple Fuzzy Place is the best place anywhere on the internet for learning, sharing and lots of caring. I'm glad you are here and look forward to getting to know you better!

I was in London in Jan/Feb 1986 and absolutely fell in Love with the bridge and Big Ben as well as Westminister Abbey.

Welcome, Judith! I'm glad you've joined us, and I'm afraid that I must confirm what Amy said about cleaning. A clean house is NOT my strong point since I've started digi-scrapping. :P But the dust that I must put up with is so worth it, when I look at the memories and pics that have been preserved so beautifully! Can't wait to see pages of your little one!
