In April, Pepisco is switching Pepsi and Mt. Dew back to it's original formula from the 1970s. That means they are taking out the high fructose corn syrup (HFCS)!!! Many of you know how passionate I am about getting rid of the evil HFCS so you can probably imagine how thrilled I am that someone is stepping in the right direction. It's supposedly for a limited time, but I'm really hoping that people will embrace the change and then other companies will follow suit. Snapple is removing HFCS from their products as well. I'll be doing cartwheels if we can get the hideous stuff out of breads, cereals, ketchup, BBQ sauce and crackers.

There is hope!!! I might even buy a bit of Pepsi just as a show of support for the product. I really try hard not to drink pop (soda or whatever you call it in your neighborhood), but I will drink a few empty calories now and then. I've got a stash of Archer Farms sasparilla in my fridge just in case of an emergency (Jones Soda doesn't have HFCS either). ;)

Anyone else want to cheer with me??? :D

That's great! I'm not a Pepsi fan, but I do like a Mt. Dew every now and then... I wish Coke would go back to sugar. I'll tell you the Dublin Dr. Peppers made with real sugar are the best!

I use to drink lots of Pepsi but the cost
has become so high ($4.49 for a 12 pack)
that I've switched to water.
Best for me and my pocketbook.

That is good news. My fave is Dr. Pepper, but I've tried to cut out soda completely. Still break down and have about one a week though.

I prefer Coke (don't tell the DH), but my favorite pop is Dr. Pepper. How is that one on the no high fructose whatever it is we want to avoid?
I like Jones too!! And Snapple is awesome.
I try NOT to have pop in the house because we don't drink it very much. We mostly have it when we go out (as you already know LOL) or if we go to the movies.
Glad to hear they are going to try it though.
Thanks for sharing this info!!

If you have a Cub Foods in your area, they sell Mexican Coca-Cola. It is made with cane sugar. It's usually found in the Mexican food aisle. I buy three of them every two weeks and attempt to talk my DH into drinking that instead of the other stuff. He has not fully joined my bandwagon. Yet. ;)

WOW! How awesome is this! I have been so pleased that they are removing evil Yellow #6 and replacing it with natural food colorings so this is yet another step in the right direction!

We are pepsi drinkers in my house, so I'm excited about this news. I drink too much pop and am trying to limit it, but it's good to know that pepsi is moving in the right direction.

I'm a diet cola drinker myself. I do remember a while back, though when coke came out with "Coca Cola Classic" which I think went back to the old recipe. didn't last long though.

Glad to see a trend away from the HF corn syrup though. That stuff's evil!

That is definitely good news, but if they are just replacing it with sugar, well.....you can imagine what I think of that!

The better replacement altogether? Drink WATER! :D

That was in the 80's after the "New Coke" debacle. It was HORRIBLE! They had to rebrand themselves as Coca Cola Classic to get rid of the "new coke" stigma... So the recipe still has HFCS

I KNEW you were going to say that. ;)

I'm trying to look at the bigger picture here. It's a step in the right direction by a big name company. Does everyone look at the labels of their favorite bread? Do you ever put ketchup on anything? Not everyone can afford to go organic, but everyone can read a label. I just want HFCS out of EVERYTHING! At least you body knows what to do with real sugar. It has no clue what to do with HFCS or any other ARTIFICIAL sweetener. Don't believe a word of the ads saying that HFCS is "natural". Those are put out by the Corn Growers Association. HFCS has even recently been found to contain trace amounts of mercury due to the processing (for the record, not ALL of the HFCS was found to have mercury, but alot of the big name products DID have it).

Okay, I have to actually go do some work for a bit. I'm rather passionate about this topic so it's hard for me to leave it alone. ;)

Wow, that is really neat. I sure wish food was the way it was way back when. Went to Europe last summer and their food was so much fresher tasting, I loved it.

Heinz actually makes an organic ketchup and my kids actually like it better. The only difference appears to be that they use cane sugar instead of HFCS. Ours is in the organic aisle, not with the other ketchups, thouugh.

On a similar note, I actually found a BBQ sauce that I really like that didn't have HFCS in it. It's made about 90 miles from here and bottled in Ball jars. Problem is that they just raised the price to $5 per jar. It's not in my budget at the moment so I might have to develop my own sauce. I LOVE BBQ anything. ;)

If you have the Schmidts brand of bread in your area, look for their bread that is labeled Sugar Free. It's a blue banner across the wrapper that says Sugar Free. This is the only bread I've found, besides organic, that doesn't have any HFCS. Oh, and it's whole wheat bread. :)

It's good to see the food industry taking note of what the public wants and trending that way. Unfortunately, I think this is probably more a CYA decision than a "it's the right thing to do" decision.

When the world runs on the latter principle, I will be out of a job and happy about it.

We eat Earth Grains Wheat Berry. The kids love it. We also like the honey wheat by Archer Farms that you can buy at Target. Everything else I've looked at in the regular bread aisle has HFCS (and I've spent hours looking at them all in every store). :)
