Are More People Printing 12 X 12 Now? Why?

Recommended Posts

When I first downloaded the "15 Things..." e-book, the first thing that really got me excited was the possiblilty of doing pages 8x8. I've done many this size. But not one to leave well enough alone, I gave into temptation and had a few printed 12 x 12. I honestly can't tell you which is my favorite quite honestly, as each has it's benefits.....

Sooooo...if you have started printing larger could you tell my why you do? Are you happy with the larger size? Do you miss your smaller items? Also, if you are still an 8x8 gal, could you tell me why you are staying with the smaller size?

I have 25 LO's loaded up to print and need to decide what size I want to print. Your opinions will help me a great deal!

my preference is for 12 x 12 - mainly because thats how I stared out with paper scrapping.

I love the impact of the large page and the clarity of detail and of journalling - you can see every little detail. I also have an interchangeable 12 x 12 frame so often change the LO to display my current favourite.

I've always done 12x12 - I just like the big size, and it fits in the same books as my paper scrapping that way. Plus, I often put a lot of pictures on one page, so I worry if I went to small, all those pics would be too tiny to see.

I've been scrapping mostly 12x12 but printing 8x8. For one thing it's much cheaper, but also I always hated the way my 12x12 paper albums stick out on the shelf because it's not deep enough. I've also been scrapping and planning to print 8x10 this year, for my SG52 weekly layouts, because I want to put them in a Blurb book.

When I was a paper scrapper, I scrapped 12 x 12, so when I switched to digital, that's what I started with. but, I changed really quickly. Now, I scrap 12 x 12, but I ALWAYS print 8 x 8. I love that size because my kids can handle the albums. 12 x 12 albums are too big, so they don't have the freedom to look at them without help. And the 8 x 8 albums fit nicely on shelves. And I have a regular photo printer, so I can print them on 8 1/2 x 11 paper (talk about instant gratification, lol). And the albums are less expensive. And, I often do layouts with just one picture on them. Those layouts look disproportionate on 12 x 12 layouts, but they are perfect on 8 x 8 (unless you have a huge monitor, 8 x 8 layouts are closer to what the layouts look like on your screen). I always seem to have a lot of journaling, and I usually use a pretty small point size (maybe 8 or 10 pt.), so when you resize, it's even smaller. when I first switched to 8 x 8 size, I was worried that the journaling would be too small, but it never has been (if I'm creating a layout specifically for the great-grandparents, I use a larger size, but not for any other projects). I LOVE 8 x 8 layouts. :D

I have never printed at 12x12 but scrap that size. I have been printing 8x8 for many of the same reasons as Anna, my kids can look at them and I can print them out NOW! I actually ran out of photo paper!

I have some older digital photos in lower resolution that I am not sure will print well at 12x12 so I am scrapping them right at 8x8. I love the way they are turning out! (My first digital camera was a 1 megapixel!)

Thank you all for your responses! I am going to stick with the 8x8's. The cost factor, the "I'm printing this NOW", and the fact that they fit on my shelves better. My dc look at my albums daily (no kidding) and the 12x12's are just cumbersome.

I'm always second guessing myself and get OCD about stuff like this, LOL.

Hugs to everyone!

When I started digiscrapping, I didn't know 8x8 albums were even available, so I bought a large format printer....so I always print 12x12 just because I can. LOL

I always scrap 12X12, but print 8X8 from home. I like the instant gratification, but sometimes I find mistakes on my layouts, and if I had them printed somewhere, I'd be upset about having it reprinted. If I do it at home, I don't mind so much.

I just really love the fantastic detail you get with 12x12 using Scrap Girls products. To me, 12x12 is just so much more impressive.

Hmmm....do you think that you lose that much detail when you print 8x8? Has anyone noticed this?

I'm hoping to print my first album soon! It will be 12 x 12, partly because that's what size my paper albums are, but also because I almost always use a lot of photos on a single page.

There are times, though, where I do have a only a couple of photos and not much to say about a subject that's not that important, but I still want to include the photos in my album, but a whole 12 x 12 page seems to be overkill. So throughout my album there will be a handful of pages that are a compilation of 4 layouts designed at 12 x 12, but printed on a single page at about 5.5 x 5.5 each. Because I plan out my album, I know what pages will be printed smaller, and so I make sure the font is just a tiny bit larger than I usually use on those pages.

Anyway, I best get back to trying to get this album finished .... 18 layouts to go and counting!

I printed the same layout at 12" and 8" the other day on my wide format printer and the detail was there in both, just bigger in the 12x12 page. I have a wide format printer and usually print at 8"x8". The pages are still easy to read. I was surprised at how little difference it mad. It is nice to be able to print 12"x12" when I need to. I even scanned all my 12x12 paper albums and have re-printed a bunch of them at 8" and I really like the way they look too.

I print at home in 8x8 and the clarity is wonderful. You lose absolutely nothing printing in this size. However, if you are one who often does multi-photo pages - I'd say, more than 3 on a page - 12x12 might be better for you.

What I did find when I trimmed my 8.5x11's into the 8x8's and placed them in my 8.5x8.5 album - they looked smaller than I had envisioned the pages looking. Weird - they didn't look that small when they were not trimmed.

I just got a large format printer - not because I wanted to start printing everything in 12x12 but because it was a new concept to have the ABILITY to print large. I still will probably print most everthing in 8x8 because the albums are easier to handle and store. I will soon be downsizing and storage will be a problem. And besides, when I look through my friend's paper scrapped 12x12 albums, I can barely handle them. They are bulky and really hard to comfortably sit on a chair and look through. I need to be sitting at a table to look through them.

Like most of everything we do here, it's a matter of personal preference. What feels "comfortable" to you. And, I have to admit, 12x12 is impressive just because it is 12x12.

I have a large format printer and always scrap 12x12 LOs

but print 8x8. I like the size of the 8x8 albums; they are easier to store

and leave on the coffee table.

Now, I only print 12x12 if I'm going to display the LO by itself.

I too have a wide format printer and I love my 12 x 12's but if I have a smaller album I do print out 8x8's.. But, I do love how the 12's come out!! If you could you may want to invest in a wide format printer one day. I just saved up my Quarters until one went on sale !! And I'm glad I did!!!!

I'm struggling with getting 8 x 8 prints done at Sam's Club. I think it's far more economical than printing at home - the printers aren't a high cost, but the ink is terribly expensive. My problem is that Sam's often cuts off a bit on the sides and top. A real problem for border elements. Has anyone else resolved an issue like this?
