Well, for me it hasn't been going too well. This morning I ran for the second time in 2 weeks (pathetic!). The weather has been iffy, I've been iffy, therefore....no running. But I've renewed my commitment to shrinking my derriere, and getting my 5K on! Today I ran/walked 2.4 miles (more walking than running in my program right now...that's ok with me).

I've renewed my commitment to drinking water and avoiding the sweets (which were never really a problem for me before). I'm gonna try to keep active 6 days a week and save scrapping for the evening instead of sitting in the chair much of the day playing with layers. I took BEFORE photos today. And I'm just about to go find a new 5K to run since DH will be away that weekend and I haven't come up with a sufficient plan to make it work for me. I'm pretty bummed about that.

So how's id going for the rest of you? Check in and let's encourage each other!

Debbie

Keep at it, Debbie. I have not tried running in a while--blamed my knees--but I have wanted to try again for a couple of years. My other family members are training for a triathlon this summer and I really have thought about a 5K. I'm hoping to give it a try.

I did start all over on Weight Watchers today. With so many traveling weekends for swimming, I've been negligent. I have not gained weight, so I hope that means that when I lose my 10-15 pounds I'll be able to maintain!

I have had a bad couple of weeks. I did workout 3 days last week, but one day was a walk and the other two was on a stationary bike. I tried jogging, but my knees couldn't handle it. I'm really discouraged because I want to do this. I'm traveling this week, yesterday through Wednesday so I'm not going to get a lot of workout time this week. I'm going to pick up some Aleve to take for my workout on Thursday and hope that takes care of the pain in my knees so I can get back into the swing of things again. I still want to do the 5k in May and hope that the aleve will do the trick.

Good for you for taking the before photo, I haven't done that yet, but need to. I have tried to get more water in as well, so I'm on the right track with that.

I'll be sure to check back in later this week and see how you are coming along and to report any updates.

Nope, no running for me since that last update, either. The weather has just been too icky. Of course, I have been doing my normal work outs every day, so all is not lost. I also got new running shoes this weekend, so I'm ready to hit the streets. It's supposed to warm up quite a bit this week, so I hope to get out there at least one day this week.

Thanks for checking in on us, Debbie, and way to go for keeping motivated. It's great that you took that before photo. There is nothing like that for inspiration. In fact, I will post my before and where I am now for inspiration in this thread. :)

Heather, do you think maybe it's your shoes that are causing you the problem with your knees? It could be that your shoes don't have enough support and it's effecting your knees. I'm not an expert in this area at all, just had that thought as I was reading your post.

Kim - can't wait to see where you go with this! :)

Okay, here are my Day 1 photos, from last June before we starting doing Beachbody's P90 program:

I'm on day two of my beachbody program. Yesterday I could only handle 15 minutes, but today I did 21 minutes. Jan, seeing your before and after photos really inspires me. I'm just not ready to post my before photos. Maybe when the afters look really good I'll post some. Having all of you working toward your goals helps keep me on track too.

I actually went out this afternoon with my dog and did an interval type walk/jog and it didn't hurt too badly. We have 107 acres and a lot of it is set aside ground (yes, we are paid not to farm it) so we took off out there. It is hilly and soft. I was worried about starting out on pavement. I felt fine. I just thought it odd that my one minute of running was always uphill. I was also surprised at how quickly a minute goes by.

Thanks, Debbie. I am glad to report no soreness this AM. Guess starting out slowly works! (I was more tender last week from the 20 minute eliptical workout I did with a friend!)

I'm still at the walking stage - not sure when I'll get up to running. I had a minor setback last week... For some reason I can't wear runners, they make my feet ache. So I've always walked in sporty-type open sandals and they're really very comfortable. Last week my heel got sore and blistered, the inside strap on the heel was worn and rubbed my heel. Ouch! So I stopped for a couple days, tried another pair of sandals and same thing. Then I tried my crocs - they're working quite well actually so far. So I'm almost back on track again. Brisk walking about 4-5 days a week for 1/2 hour. While I had the bad foot, I started doing some aerobic-type exercises (barefoot). My friend's daughter got this workout cd in school and it is very good! Ok, it's geared for kids - she was in kindergarten when she got it! - but it's a great workout. I was sore for a day or two afterwards. And my dd had fun with it too. lol

Jan you look amazing! What great results! So glad it's paying off for you. I can't wait to see some results myself. It's very difficult for me with food as I have a dh who has the biggest sweet tooth, and he always has junk in the house. I'm working on my willpower! lol

Tonya, fess up on the name of that Kindergarten CD. I'm all for kids stuff. It could become a daily activity in the summer when we need exercise (me and the girls) and it's too pickin' hot to go outside. This sounds like it could be PERFECT!

I did my run/walk today as scheduled....BIG WOO HOO for that! I kept to the schedule!!! GO Me! AND I cut 2 minutes off my pace without trying!!! I certainly don't expect that to happen every time I go out, though it would be nice ;). At that pace I'd be the world record holder in no time :D

I talked to DH and we agreed that I'm gonna run the Memorial Day Dash 5K on Memorial Day(duh!). Need to go register.

How about you?

Ummm.. the workout CD - there's no name on it, no names on the tracks on the CD itself either I think. I really have no way to identify it! I have no idea where it came from! PM me if you want a copy.

Jan!! You are so inspirational!! I love the after pics -- amazing!! I need to get back into running -- I have been doing my kettlebells (sporadically :P ) and I've been trying to at least walk on the treadmill -- but I want to get back to running. I did a 1/2 marathon a few years ago, and I want to do it again!? Maybe? :)

So much I want to do, so little time.

Yesterday was a walk day, which I did. Today should be walk/job, but will be a day off due to rain--thunderstorm variety (hey, it's not snow!!)

WTG Kim. Sorry about the rain. We just managed to get a family Rec Center pass (yea for swimming this summer). So now I have NO excuse for not moving. Hope your weather picks up and you can get a walk/jog in soon.

Yippee! I did my 3rd walk/run in one week today!! I'm on a roll...LOL! Yesterday I exercised behind the vacuum and stretching putting lots of laundry in the washer and then bending to put it in the dryer and stretching to hang it up....repeat! I also did some weight lifting as I moved the girls' bookcase and found many "missing" items that had slipped behind. I also did the "To-the-trash Dash" with lots of papers and doodads from their room to the kitchen garbage bag. Then I did some cheerleading (really) with DD2 as she tried to commit 4 really tough spelling words to memory (who ever thought that gladiator and glorious were 1st grade spelling words?? Granted it's the accelerated group, but REALLY!). So I'd say I got a workout in yesterday too!

I've found a cool way to calculate my runs and keep track on line of how I'm doing. Thought someone else might find it helpful. It's called MapMyRun. You can use the maps to map out calculate distance of your walk/run area and then log in and keep track of time and such. I'm a junkie for data like that to keep me motivated. I can see how many calories I'm burning (not nearly enough yet ;)), my pace, track weight loss, etc. You can use it for hikes, swims, bike rides almost anything. And I love the calendar training log...it has a little running person on each day of the calendar I've run. If I would swim and record it, it would have a little swimmer, etc. (another motivator for me...it's like the girls chore chart! LOL!) The site also has cool challenges like walk a marathon in 30 days (that's by doing a little bit each day or several times a week -- cute, huh?). I think they are great.

Anyway, that's my newest fun. I'm gonna be playing with the girls this weekend (and DH too, I think!). Back to running next Monday when my 5K to Couch Potato is upping the ante a bit...more running less walking...WOO HOO!!

Keep up the good work ladies. We can look like Jan too! :D

I've been on that site, but haven't explored it as much as you have, Debbie. It does sound like fun! I'll have to look into it more.

DH and I did a walk/run thing on Thursday afternoon, when it warmed up a little. I wasn't able to hit it as hard as I have been, since I'm doing this restricted Six Day Slim Down thing. I weighed myself on the morning of the 4th day, and I had lost 4 pounds in those first 3 days! WOW! Today is the last day, so I'll be weighing myself tomorrow to see what the final count is. I'm pretty sure I've lost more. I'll let you know. If you'd like to see what I'm doing, visit our blog at fitclubtoday.com. I've been video-blogging my journey. :D

But anyway, since I'm not taking in a whole lot of carbs (this is high lean protein, low carb diet), I didn't have the energy to hit my run as hard. But that's okay. That's the day that I burned off 509 calories from exercise and had only eaten 530 calories so far that day! Eeek! lol

Anyway, we hope to get out and run again on Saturday. We'll see.

Oh, and did I tell you I got some running shoes? I got a pair of Under Armour that are like running on a cloud. Love them! And they're black with the symbols and other highlights in pink! So cute, too! :D

Those shoes sound so cute! And we all know that cute counts in every aspect of life...fitness included! I'm using new shoes as a bribe to keep going. If I complete my 3x/week walk/run for 4 weeks, I get new shoes (I really am needing them before the "big" 5K). Then the next 4 weeks I'm planning on getting a new workout top for running the race! That way I'm sure to be cute! :P

Today's run/walk was great! I used my new Podrunner: Intervals podcast on my ipod (check out my review of that HERE). Got in my 2.4 miles again! Woo Hoo. I'm excited to be able to do this. I'm hoping to add some other activity in to the mix with our new Rec Center pass!!! Can't decide...strength training/aerobics type stuff or aqua-cize stuff. The down side of the aqua is the need to put on a bathing suit. Maybe that would be more motivation to get it done. The thought of me in a bathing suit...not pretty!

Keep up the great efforts ladies!

Debbie, congrats on your run/walk today. I got 1.5 miles in today and then switched to the bike to finish out my workout. I didn't have any pain in my knees, so I'm very excited. I think my pain was self induced by pushing myself too hard (I was too eager and didn't allow for a day of rest in between when first starting out). I'm going to back it up a little bit and workout on the bike on my in between days. I didn't work out at all last week due to work travels and taken care of my DD who was sick. I'm excited, I got my week off to a good start!

Keep it up and they say that water aerobics is really good for you! Let's us know what you decide to throw into the mix.

I'm thinking of starting the Couch Potato to 5K plan tonight (if the rain holds off)! If I start this week, I should be ready for the Race for the Cure 5k in June.

So count me in as a running girl!! :-)

Now to find some really cute purple running shoes ;)

Yaay Theresa! Welcome to the club! :D

Debbie, the best thing you can do for yourself, since you're already doing cardio with the running, is to add strength-training to the mix. Nothing burns off that fat like muscle, and the more muscle you build on your body, the higher your metabolism runs. A person really doesn't have a complete fitness routine unless they are combining both cardio and strength-training. :)

Debbie, sounds like you are doing great! I've been fussing with sore ankles. Don't know if my Reeboks are letting me down, or if I just did too much out on the propery (grassy, hilly fields--not level walking).

YAY Day #1 done! :dancing-smilie: Left work early and decided to go ahead and get my running out of the way before I plop myself in front of the TV/computer for the rest of the night. I lasted a total of 25 minutes: 4 total minutes of jogging, 21 minutes of total walking. I could only make it through 4 reps of the jogging today, so I kept a brisk walking pace for the rest so I would still get a good workout in. But I know the jogging time will improve as the days and weeks go by.

I need to get a pedometer or something to measure my distance, because right now I'm just walking laps around the lake at our apartment complex. I think 1 lap = 1/4 mile, but I'm not sure.

Yaaay Theresa! That's a great start!

A pedometer is a great idea, and they aren't very expensive either.

DH and I are heading out to Arizona on Friday to visit his parents for the week. We hope to run on our cardio days since the weather will be nice and we'll have no other time constraints. I can't wait to get somewhere warm for a while!!! :D
