I Need Some Guidance

I am a total newbie - both to this message forum and to digital scrapbooking. Up until recently I didn't even know that scrapbooking was possible to do on the computer. Well - there is no holding me back now! It's a whole new world for me ... I'm so excited! I'm addicted!

I'm curious about one thing though. I came across paper templates in the boutique. This is something that has really caught my eye because I can't seem to find the "right" paper for a particular project. However I am a little leary of purchasing something that I have no idea how to use or can't get to work (mind you, that was my predicament when I installed PSE3 - still learning the ins and outs)

How exactly do the templates work? I use PSE3. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to ScrapGirls! The templates come with "how to" instructions. They are very simple to use. In fact, we just had a class on templates on Saturday. I'll try to get the transcripts on line tomorrow so you can follow along. But check out the instructions given and if you are still clueless, come back and let us know! We will be sure to give you step by step iinstructions...

If you check out the newsletter I think they have a link to a fabulous free kit and there is a paper template in it so you can try it out.

Welcome to ScrapGirls! :D :welcome2:

The paper templates come with instructions, and we are always here to help you along the way! Feel free to ask questions - chances are, if you don't know, there's someone else out there that doesn't know, either! And we have people working on lots of different programs, so someone here can almost always get you an answer! :D

Did you see today's newsletter? (may 10th?) I wrote a tutorial on how to use the paper templates with screen shots along the way. It's really easy and addicting, I have fun making the samples. And then when you start layering both photo templates with paper templates-----even more possibilities!

Here's the newsletter link, scroll to the bottom to see the tutorial: May 10 SG news

Here's a layout I did combining a photo template (Rocks 2102) and a Paper Template (Christine), I got a wild background. Off Camera

I took the Photo template and desaturated it (so it was mostly grey) and then altered it to be a blue green. Then I added the paper template on top and made the image light blue green by applying a colour overlay. Then I merged both files and added a dry brush filter.

Yes I did see your tutorial and gave it a whirl. I'm stuck at trying to find where "Blend Mode" is. I'm working on PSE3 and tried accessing the help option but it wasn't much help. I'll keep plugging away at it ... I'm sure using the templates are really easy to use ... once I figure it out :0) (sometimes I miss the obvious)

Thanks for all the help!

the blend mode is in your layers palette, on the top left, it says normal, but you can open that window and scroll down to other choices. Each does something different, and sometimes you just have to try it and see what it looks like.

I don't have PSE loaded on this machine, I'm not in my studio----I'll try to get back to you tomorrow, unless some one elses chimes in.

Thanks for the screen capture. I feel really dumb ... I am familiar with the layer palette but I was literally looking for blending mode ... duh. I'm slowly getting the hang of it. Starting to create some wild stuff (not sure that I would be able to duplicate it though - all trial and error)

Thanks again!
