butterflys78
Hi all, I have been thinking of going digital. ( less mess to clean up when done) I have a stupid question. Since you have to scan in all your photos ( I have TONS!) to use them what do you do with all the hard copy pictures. Do you keep them all in the photo albums they already in? Then you have double photos. Don’t have the space for that or do you throw them out? I would feel funny throwing pics out. Just wondering what people do when they have lots of hard copy photos.... Elisha
I couln't bring myself to throw them out. If I scanned and scrapped them, I might not keep them in an album anymore (LOL like I ever put my photos in an album to begin with - but that's another story). I keep them in photo boxes. catvinnat
Hi Sara and welcome to scrapgirls. I would certainly keep hold of your original photos - there is something rather special about the original source material even if you have a digital copy. I personally would keep them in acid free boxes, filed by date , thats assuming I could drag myself away from the pc long enough to sort them. There are various schools of thought as to whether you should leave them in their original albums or take them out. they are certainly easier to scan a page at a time and it can damage them to take them out, particularly from the sticky albums. I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along shortly to advise Be warned, digiscrapping is addictive! Have fun

KarinaS
I have mine in SEVERAL acid-free boxes, sorted and waiting to be scrapped (traditionally). I made a vow when I got my digital camera in 2003 that I would NOT print any digi pics until I scrapped all my already printed ones. (I have enough supplies around here to do that!) Needless to say, I'm behind ... BUT I still plan to scrap all the old pics the trad way and my digi pics will be scrapped digitally (except for a few that I purchased albums, embellies, etc. for a specific theme like our trip to the Grand Canyon, but maybe that can be a 'hybrid' album, hmmmm)
SandiC.
I don't print photos much anymore. But what I do is to only pick a handful from each event or place or occassion to put into an album. Any that are decent I send to family and friends. Leftovers...well, I have been know to cut them to make mosaics and collages. This is a great way to get rid of the really bad ones. And I do have boxes too.
Shelbi
We got our first digital camera years ago and have upgraded a few times since that first one, so I don't have too many (current) paper photos. But I would never get rid of the ones that I do have!!! Find a good box and keep them, that's what I say.
SkRiders
One of the crafting stores around my house (in Saskatchewan Canada) usualy has sales now and then on photo boxes. Usally like 3 boxes for $5. When that sale is on I usually grabb a few boxes. I'm still in the process of sorting out old famly photos and digging through packing boxes full of them. I love the photo boxes because you can get plain simple ones you can decorate your self or leave them blank and tie them into your decore ... or stack them neatly in a closet once you've got too many LOL Photo Boxes is the way to go! PurpleJAF
I haven't personally tackled this area yet. So, I'll just say welcome to Scrap Girls! Glad you joined us.
mjaguiar
I would recommend to keep the photos. Just in case because you never know when a computer will crash. that is the only thing that worries me about digital. i backup sure, multiple places, but still...nothing can replace the printed ones. I keep mine in an photo book and in organizational products based on years. LOL it is easier to keep up with items sometimes like that. By the way, I see you are new....Welcome to SG! The happiest place in the world filled with wonderful scrappers ready to share the love!
lorac
I scan and end up keeping the old photos from my childhood and of my grandparents and when my mother and aunts were young. Some of my old trip photos I have tossed, I just can't keep everything and besides, I don't even know when the last time I even looked at some of these photos. As long as they are on my pc, out they go.
TallCool69
I'm keeping all mine! I'm actually digiscrapping all my photos/memories from 2006 and onwards, because that is when I went completely digital. Before 2006, I've finished my regular scrapbooks/photoalbums. Now I only scan old photos if I need them for a particular project or challenge! But I will NEVER throw them out!
