I would like to purchase a printer for 12 x 12 LO's. I see where many of you really like Epson R1900. In reading some reviews (on other boards), I saw a couple of comments about problems with ink cartridges (printer unable to identify cartridge). This means a defective cartridge usually. Have any of you experienced this?
Thank you so much. This is my first post so I hope I've put this in the correct place. This is a super site!

I'm sorry that no one has come along and had an answer to your question. I would be interested too because I've been considering the R1900. Sorry that I can't help except to bump this up so hopefully someone who has the printer will see it.

I have had the Epson 1400 for over a year and have printed out many, many layouts and used lots of ink. Only one time did I experience that error with an ink cartridge and I called Epson and they quikly sent me a replacement. I do purchase my ink from Epson, because if you buy three, you get free shipping and I have yet to find it cheaper on the web, as everybody else charges shipping.
I love the quality of my pictures and layouts that the Epson does, I buy beautiful papers for it from Red River Papers and am glad I went for the Epson wide-format printer.
I am sure you will love the 1900 as well, I hear it has really rich and beautiful color tones.

I have been using Epson printers for about 10 years. I have the 1400 and love it. When I first got it there was a problem with the paper feed. Epson promptly replaced the printer and I have not had a problem since. I have never had a problem with the ink cartridges. I wanted to exchange ink cartridges when I replaced my printer and had absolutely no problem.
They are a great company to deal with. I order ink from them - no tax no shipping and the cartridges are approx $2. cheaper then my local store.

I have a Brother printer and I love it. But just a word of warning to those of you who use non-Epson ink cartridges (or whatever brand printer you have). Eventually they will cause problems with your printer and when that happened with my old Brother, the company would not even tell me how to fix the problem. The Magenta cartidge was not printing, no matter what I tried. Called Brother and they told me that since it was not a "Brother" cartridge, there was nothing they could do for me. So please be aware that there might be some problems down the road. Don't know if all companies are like that, but you never know. I had to purchase a new printer and I only use Brother brand ink cartridges in it. I purchase them on eBay for way less than any store can sell them.
When I purchase a new printer, it will definitely be an Epson for 12x12 prints.

I have had one Canon and two Epsons and have never had a cartridge failure. I presently use the R1900 - it's working like a charm - but I've only got 3 month's experience with the R1900.
I also order my ink from Epson because of the free overnight shipping. I would never use generic ink or refill services unless my printer was out of warranty because I'm pretty sure you won't get any help from the printer manufacturer if you use generic inks.
The generic inks are getting better, but still...
And besides, the quality of the prints are excellent - and that's what it's all about for me - that at-home printing cost is a distant second.

I've had an R1800 for several years. I've never had a problem like the one you described. Good luck getting it figured out.
