I was so excited when I saw the Adobe Illustrator (AI) brushes for sale in the boutique that I pestered my dh until he gave me the cash to buy them all. I've always wanted to learn to use AI and I felt (rightly so) that these brushes would be an excellent starting point to teaching myself to use AI. I love all the Illustrator brushes and use them as often as I can. Thank you Valerie for the brushes and the movie on how to use them. I'm also getting quite comfortable using the other tools.
The thing I'm having a problem with is making my own Illustrator brushes. I can make a design with no problem but I can't get them to work the way the purchased brushes do. I figure that I must be doing something wrong.
So if someone could help me out I'd be eternally grateful.
I'm using Adobe's CS4 on Vista Home Premium. I don't know if that makes a difference.
TIA

I am so glad you are enjoying the Illustrator brushes, but I am not going to give away all that I know. (bwahahaha)

Thank you V for not showing me how to make illustrator brushes. I was so frustrated by your refusal to help me that I told my wonderful husband, Lannie about it and he said to me "Why not take a course on Illustrator", so I did. Lannie bought me a one year long premium subscription for Lynda.com. Now I know how to do so much more than just making brushes. I'm now working on a mastery level course and I'm totally hooked on Illustrator.
Of course I'm not limited to Illustrator. I've also taken up to mastery level courses in Photoshop and Photoshop Elements, as well as Lightroom. I love to learn so I intend to take lessons on several other programs as well. Since I have a premium subscription I have no limits except time. I started the courses in July so I've got until the end of June next year to play and learn. Then, given how much I'm enjoying it, I may just purchase another year.
So thank you V! If you had shown me how to make brushes I may have just stopped there, and then I wouldn't be having the fun I'm having now.

Way to go!
Illustrator and Photoshop are so cool to learn.
And I love Valerie's e-book and brushes. I just love listening to her sweet voice giving instructions...

Glad I inspired you to pursue your passion.
I am self taught and I have to thank my Dad who thwarted my efforts to turn my talents into a career and yet who gave me the tools I needed to pursue my dream. Whenever I had a question, he'd tell me look it up. "I bought you kids a set of encyclopedias a dictionary and a thesarus, and got you libray cards; so figure it out." Thankfully, now we have Google, but he gave me the tools of research, determination and perserverance, so I am grateful to him. In a way, he has influenced you as well!
Congratulations on your new found knowledge and skills. I am proud of you!

Thank you V! That means a lot to me coming from someone whom I admire and respect as much as I do you. I'm having a ball with Illustator and Photoshop now and I hope someday to be good enough to join your creative staff. Not yet, but someday.
