Forgive me if I ramble here, but 9-11 has been on my mind this weekend.
I signed out of the Pentagon on Aug 3, 2001. I worked in leased office space in Crystal City, not in the Pentagon itself, but I had many friends there, and went back and forth frequently for meetings in the area that was hit.
That wedge had just been renovated with increased security features, which saved many lives.
I was very, very fortunate in that all my close friends were safe.
I did know 3 of the casualties. One was a dear friend's boss, whose family belonged to my sister's church in Indianapolis. One was the best friend of another dear friend. And the third had attended my goodby lunch in July.
Other friends lost close friends that I didn't know personally, and one friend was slightly singed. As she was crawling out, she started to reach for her purse on her desk, and realized her phone was melting.
Many of the survivors bear phyical and emotional scars.
The Pentagon Memorial was dedicated last year, and I need to go visit and pay my respects. There is a bench over a small pool for each loss.
Dave, Bill, and COL B - you and your sacrifices have not been forgotten.

Gayle your post brought tears to my eyes. . .I "SAW" the plane that went right over my house on 9/11, the one that crashed in Shanksville PA. . .So did my g-son (at the time he lived 3 miles away). . .I remember looking to the sky when I heard the engines as it was SO LOW. . .I'm right in the flight pattern of Cleveland Hopkins Airport. . .And right below the flight path that Awful Day, from Clevland to PA. . .I have never been able to shake that feeling of seeing THAT PLANE. . .My DH works with two men who live in Shanksville & the stories they told (after they went home and SAW) still brings chills. . .
LET US NOT FORGET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think remembering is what today is all about, Gayle. My aunt had an office in the pentagon on 9/11 but was out on maternity leave. Her office had some damage, but not much. I'm sorry for the loss of your friends and I'm thankful you weren't hurt!
