Loading Psp X2 Question

My hubby surprised me with PSP X2 today. I have been using PSP X1. Anything special I need to do when I load the program? Can I keep my older version (PSP X1) on my computer? Will the new X2 copy over some of the files from X1? I'm thinking brushes, tubes, etc. OR will I need to transfer over the files myself?

He suggested loading the new PSP X2 program onto my external harddrive and skip the hard drive where my X1 is installed. Will that work? Any suggestions welcomed!!! :yippee:

Thanks, Karen (aka GatorGirl)

First of ALL ...CONGRATULATIONS!!! Keep PSPxi on the computer first and load your PSPX2. When I upgraded from 9 to xi, I kept 9 on and it transferred all my scripts, brushes, etc automatically. I'm thinking it should do the same with X2. One thing I do recommend is keep xi on the computer for at least a couple weeks or so and always read the manual :D If you haven't upgraded your RAM for hte computer you might need to do that or do the SAVE after ever 2nd or 3rd item, script, or what have you added to your layout or photos. It will save on losing hard work put in in the long run :)

I don't know what is diffrent between xi and x2 so that will be interesting for me to learn!

I would suggest not installing a program on your external, because technically that program will only work on the computer you installed it on. Why? When you install a program, there are some files that get updated (ie the installer opens the files and adds code to it) and there are some locations where files are installed that you shouldnt move where they are... (ie dll files, or database files). Those files are needed to run the program on the computer.

You should be able to install both programs just fine. I dont remember PSP taking up to much hard drive space, only RAM... lol. I think i went in and specificially copied over my brushes and tubes into the new PSP folder location just in case, so i would have a copy. It didnt take to long.

Hope that helps!

Welcome to PSP X2!!

I picked upi X2 today too! I plan to take X off my desktop and just keep Xi and X2. Installing one over the other should not be a problem at all. I don't recomend you install it to an EHD. If you decide to do that use the older version.

Did you get the Ultimate version? I am excited to play with the additional tools and am glad mine came with the user guide. I missed not having one with Xi.

I am not installing till tomorrow morning so I will let you know how it goes. Keep me posted!

Well, it's loaded! PSP X2 is on my computer and not the external hard drive. I played with it a little last night. It's pretty cool looking! BUT....(waiting for the other shoe to drop)...When I went to the organizer to open up some folders in my browser I discovered a problem. I started with the "My Pictures" folder and found some of the folders with pictures in them didn't show up in the organizer---I got a message of no images in file. However, when I opened them using Explorer, the pictures were certainly there. I then tried to bring in a scrapkit I had worked with earlier that morning with PSP XI>>I got the same message. There were no images (embellishments or papers) to be seen. Any suggestions/help?

I also have another problem. I opened a scrapbook layout and thought I'd view it as a full page preview. I went to the top menu bar and clicked under VIEW>full screen preview (or something like that!) and the desktop got larger and the top menu bar vanished! It went up under the screen edge and I can't see the words on the menu bar anymore! I don't see the words: FILE, VIEW, ADJUST,.....etc. OR the boxes to click on to minimize or close the window. Again, any suggestions on what to do?

Lastly, my hubby got me 2 PSP X2 books to accompany the program. They are self help books to help LEARN PSP X2. And they are quite good from what I have seen so far!

(I'm hoping to find a way to solve my problem mentioned above! LOL) Let me know if you want to see the titles of the books.

I would love to hear how your experience went Dee. Being the PSP pro you are, I'm sure you'll have the answer on how to fix my problems! I'm hoping!!!

With fingers crossed, Karen (aka GatorGirl)

well my install did not go too smoothly! LOL I started at 7:30 this am and just an hour ago got it to fully load. apparently I had some other program that I never use that was conflicting with it. I got all my preferences set up, saved my workspace the way I like it and opened the organizer. The first thing I noticed was that it recognized all my Visat Photo Gallery tags! Wahoo! I don't need to keep both open any more!

I used Full screen preview all the time before and simply had to hit esc to get back to the normal workspace.

You may need to go into preferences (under file) and set your file format associations. This is one of the first things I did so I am not sure if that will take care of the problem for you Karen.

Good News! My new PSP X2 program was getting stuck loading the cache files when I opened it up. One time when I opened it, I got a message to register my program. So I did. I was then on Corel website so I thought I'd look for program support and see if they could help me with the problems I mentioned in my earlier post. I was prompted to check for Patches and Upgrades for PSP X2 before going to support. I found a patch for PSP X2, so I downloaded it. When that was done, I then went to open my new PSP X2 program and it worked!!! I have my normal work space with ALL menu bars showing. I now have my pictures and scrapkits showing in the organizer. I'm hoping downloading the patches was the lucky charm.

Now I've got my fingers crossed that when I open my program up again, it'll work!

Suggestion: why don't you check for updates too, Dee?

I appreciate your help; good to talk with you again! Karen :gathering:
