Will I Ever Get It?

I have read books, watched cdroms, read tutorials, but when I open up photoshop to work, my mind goes blank and I am not sure what to do. Will it just click with me? What was the most helpful thing for you that taught you how to scrapbook? I have 4 little children (ages 7 mo. to 6) so my time is limited, but I would love to do this. Any tips would be so much appreciated!!!
Thanks, Melissa

When I first got started I got a lot of inspiration by looking at LOs that I liked and trying to recreate them, the placement of pictures, using a certain kind of embellishment. etc. Another thing that helped was going to a chat or a class (here we have Betsy's crop on Mondays, new member crops and sometimes classes on Thursday's they are all in the newsletter.) There would be people there who could answer questions and usually there was a challange or an inspiration to get those creative juices going.

Something else that people have mentioned that has helped them get started are the LO Templates that we have here in the boutique. They give you a design to start with. Then you pick papers, pictures and embellishments to create your own LO! Each set of Templates comes with instructions and sample LOs to help you visualize what you can do.

If you would like to try out the LO templates there is a free one included in the Refresh Kit that is a special this month - a whole free kit!

I hope that helps, digital scrapbooking is such a fun way to preserve those memories with your kids. I know how you want to make the most of the time you have to work on the computer. I have a 5YO, a 3YO, a 1YO and I am expecting twins in October. I try to get as much done as possible as quickly as possible. :)

Good Luck!

Hi there!
Melissa Renfro gave you some great advice. Sometimes the best way to learn is just to "play around."

You might also want to check out Ro's training movies. They're really easy to follow and to understand. A lot of people have found these training movies very successful in helping them find that "light bulb" and and begin with a solid foot. You can find them here: http://www.scrapgirls.com/store/category.php?cat=20

Hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions. That's why we're here.

I had exactly the same problem with PSE4 - I bought Ro's tutorials and after a short while I was creating wonderful things. I have a 3 year old son and likewise found it difficult to find time to get to grips with it. Just persevere and it will all click into place sooner rather than later.

Hi Melissa! Welcome! :D :welcome2:

I think the best advice is to just play. Go fool around. Make a solid colored background based on a color from the photo you want to scrap, place the photo on there, and make a title. Journal some. And voila! You have a layout!

Melissa, I know how you feel - I got PSE 4.o as a gift for Christmas but every time I tried to use it, I just got frustrated. I got a "straight" scrapbooking program, Creative Keepsakes, and just used PSE to edit my photos. What has finally got me going is Ro's videos - I learned more just from her intro and sample than from any of the books I have. In two weeks I knew more than in 5 months lol! You can also google Photoshop Elements videos and see some other free online videos. But hang in here - this is a great site with some fantastic layouts! I learn a lot just by going through the galleries. Also note that at the end of the newsletter each time are layouts shown with the materials used - very helpful! Good luck!

I haven't been at it all that long myself. I found that the best way to start was to scraplift someone else's layout design. It gives you concrete things to learn how to do and gets rid of the staring-at-a-blank-page issue. Baby steps! You can do it!

Just playing to see what stuff does is what worked for me. I then did some of the tutorials and then tried my hand at my first page. There is a Newbee chat on Wed night that might help you get started too!

Looking forward to your lo's!
