I'm _finally_ getting started on the album for our trip around the world in 1996. This is the journal block for this album. It's designed to identify the date, place, weather, etc. without always having to do so in the journaling elsewhere on the page, and to make it pictorial where that can convey the meaning without more words. I'd hope this will help unify the book, as well, since there will be many colors, fonts, etc. I kept a diary, so I have lots of journaling content.

The birds at the left are a play on our family name "Crane." May also use Kanji symbol for Crane when I get to the pages for Asia. I've made brushes from some clip-art for the weather--rain, sun, hot & sunny or partly cloudy. The globe is another brush adapted from clip-art. Date created from Expedition Passport Stamp brushes. Cranes, globe, weather symbols adapted from resources on my computer. Grunge effect by using "dirt" brush in Corel Photo-Paint X4.

I'm just getting started on the album, and it's worth it to me to get this element "just right," so please feel free to offer suggestions and comments. Thanks for looking.

I think it's great, really. I don't know that I have any other real suggestions for you, but I LOVE this idea!

Second spread added today, http://scrapgirls.com.ipbhost.com/index.ph...i&img=84482. Yikes, at this rate, it may take me a year to do the album! (It's really too bad I also need to work, go camping, celebrate birthdays, etc.)

Oh well, at least I get to spend the time remembering the trip.

I Love your stamped block!!! Really great!
And your double spreads are wonderful - this will be a gorgeous keepsake when you're done!

Don't get too worked up about it going too slow - just enjoy the process and the memories in the meantime.
You'll have a wonderful book the day you're done!

Take it from me - I have about 25 unfinished books and only 3 that have actually been uploaded, printed and come back
from Shutterfly...
I used to panic about the fact that they take forever to do, but realised that I still have the memories and that I will enjoy
the book as much if it's ready in a year or three!
I'm still scrapping the entire year of 2006, and a book on our Africa-trip in January 2007...
And as you - I actually have a "regular" life to live too! LOL!

I think that little journal block is perfect! What a great idea. I think you are going to have a spectacular album in the end. I agree with Thess, just enjoy the memories in each page as you go. And yes, its sometimes too bad that real life gets in the way of scrapping.

It's perfect, Barbara! Loved looking at the pages you have completed. They are wonderful! Will be so nice to "travel around the world" with you for all of us who will never have that opportunity.

What a great idea for a common element you can use on each LO! Take your time reliving and retelling your story about such a wonderful trip. I've really enjoyed seeing and reading about your trip so far!

I love the journal block Barbara. I especially like the crane image. Very cool.

I have so many vacation photos unscrapped. I have so many other projects ahead of them. Sigh. And I agree about taking your time and enjoying the process. My first album - my 50+years with horses - took me a year to complete.

Another spread for 27 May 1996 in London, Thames River Cruise, http://scrapgirls.com.ipbhost.com/index.ph...i&img=85051

I'd promised myself only one spread per day, but as you can see, that has already gone out the window!

What a great idea, Barbara - I wish I could find the time to do this too - 26 years of Air Force traveling would be a great "Around the World" Album, but there is sooooo much and so many pics I would have to scan - maybe one of these days. But good luck on yours! Awesome idea!
