and thought I'd post a layout for some cc to see if you all think I should change anything before trying. Give it to me, (I was going to say SOCK IT TO ME) but I know some of you probably would!   I noticed I've already had 7 people look at it and not one comment so I need your help!

Here it is LOST IN VENICE

Okay took your suggestions and changed things around here's my second layout.

Liked them both Rosemary, but the second one was really a lot better for presenting for publication. LSL Good luck and I hope they put it in for you...which magazine are you sending it too?

LOL I just went to look for the mag. and lost my response to you. Okay the challenge was to scrap a layout using only 4 X 6 photos. So that is why my photos are the size they are. For myself it would have been totally different. It's for Scrapbook Trends Magazine. Thanks for the cc.

They both look great but I think the new one is a little easier on the eyes as it has some places for them to "rest". Good luck with the publication!

'K here's the newest version. Are you sick of me yet? Hope not. I love all the feedback and it is only helping me to get better. :). Christy is there a book or something to help me learn more about how to make layouts pleasing to the eye? I'd love to have you go through my whole gallery and just critique  Like you have nothing else to do with your time, Maybe Angela can waver her :tinkerbell: and your thoughts could magically appear.

There is a design principles book in the store that would be a great place to start.

Another thing I did when I was applying to be on the team was to pick 2-3 of my favorite layout artists and study their galleries. Pay attention to things like photo placements, journaling, titles, etc. Pick layouts that stand out to you and really pick them apart and ask why. Notice things like font placement and alignment, groups of elements, repetition of elements and colors, etc. What was the first thing your eye was drawn to?

The beautiful thing about scrapbooking is that there is no right or wrong, because it is all personal tastes. My pages as a paper scrapper and early digital scrapper had lots of pictures and not much rhyme or reason to them, but they still preserve a memory and tell a story. My scrapping style is completely different now, and its fun to go back and look at the progression and see the changes and growth.

HTH!! :)

Okay, I changed the layout in my last one so it shows a ribbon. I didn't want to add yet another layout to the gallery since they are all so similar. Hope that's okay. Here is the latest version of the Lost in Venice layout.

I looked for a ribbon with a bow, but there really didn't seem to be enough space there for it, so found this one, recolored it a little bit and added a Multiply blend mode to it and loved the color on the layout. I thought the stapled ribbon added to the layout so I left it after adding a little shaddow.

Rosemary,
Yes, I'm following you around the message board. I think it's so cool you're asking for all this advice. I'm SO open to learning, too.

Thanks to all of you who are making suggestions for Rosemary, it's wonderful when somebody really desires to improve and asks for help, isn't it? Obviously Rosemary has a lot of natural talent to start with (yes, she knows how I feel, LOL) but this has really been fun today.

I have the "10 Basic Design Principles" e-book Christy mentioned. Another really good one to have in addition to it is "Intentional Design". It's one of the Digital Scrap Link e-books from last year's convention. It has a checklist for self critiquing your layouts. It helps you keep everything you've learned in mind when making your design decisions.

Right now I'm also enjoying Marnie's "Remix" e-book. She takes layouts and reworks them, and explains how those changes improve the layouts. It's really great, too.

I hope you'll do this again sometime.

Cathy Thanks for your encouragment in your sweet messages today. I love all the help I've been getting and hope to get many more cc's in the future. You can ask for cc anytime on any layout I think. It was really fun to have the feedback and be able to change it and go back for more. :)

Rosemary,

I'm feeling guilty that I didn't give the author of Intentional Design the credit she deserved (the teacher training in me). The author is Anna Mansfield.
