How Do You Restore The Zip File Icon?

When I opened my computer this morning my zip files icons looked different from the usual icon (the one that looks like a folder with a zipper). It now looks like a PSE icon! I was trying to fiddle with it in the properties tab of the zip file but it's prompting for a "open with what program" and I'm like, huh?, I just want to change the icon. I was thinking of doing a restore point but before I do that time-consuming process, does anybody have an answer for me? It's driving me nuts!

TIA!

When you right-click on the icon and choose properties, under "General" there is a place to choose which program opens your zip files. Mine is set to Windows Explorer. Maybe yours got mistakenly set to PSE at some point? There is no option to change the icon but I'm thinking the icon is associated with the program that is set to open the file.

Unfortunately, some program updates can do this, so the restore point is a good solution, but may get overridden when you update PSE again. If that opens, Janine's steps are right, but navigate to c:\program files\WinZip\winzip.exe or c:\program files\ExtractNow\extractnow.exe to choose one of these programs as the default for opening .zip files. That should resolve it.

I have this same problem :( Happened to me after an update too... I have just gotten used to the little "nothing" icons. LOL

Edited to add: In case anyone else ever has this problem, I fixed mine (so funny, because i lived with it for MONTHS! LOL)

I right clicked on the unknown program icon that was in the little zip icons place, chose properties and then where it says "Opens With:" Click Change: Choose Compressed(zipped) Folders This will reassign the .zip file to the extraction program that ships with windows XP. But, If you have WinZip, You can select that from the list instead ;)
