I just found that HP now has a wide format printer called the HP Officejet 7000. The two reviews I read about it said it is a really good, economical printer. OfficeDepot and the HP website have them for $179 right now (full retail $229.) I was just wondering is anyone has one and if you do, what do you think of it? I'm going to go take a look at it at Office Depot this afternoon or tomorrow.

Pat, I don't know anything about it, would would definitely be interested in hearing what you find out. I have a 12" printer, an HP, but it isn't compatible with Vista, and apparently never will be. I'm subscribing to this thread, and will also go look for today's Home Depot flier.

I just realized you said Office Depot. I'm not sure if we have one of those any longer.

I went to our closest Office Depot this afternoon and they did not have a display model (they have two actually in stock) so I couldn't see any actual prints. They did have a display model of the 8800 which is $299 and very similar in features, but it didn't have a demo mode so I couldn't see prints from that either. Not a very good way to sell printers in my opinion. I'll have to check Best Buy to see if they carry it. They didn't a month or so ago. I'll check Nebraska Furniture Mart too and let you know if I learn anything more.

I got to thinking this afternoon that I really shouldn't be spending any money right now with Convention coming up. Everything so far has come out of our vacation budget, but I probably should take my own spending money. I need a pocket camera too. :)

Keep in mind an Officejet is not a Photosmart and I am not sure what differences would be for photo printing. Although HP's websites states it does beautiful pictures and it does have the separate ink cartridges. That is a great price for a wide format printer - I would compare specs with a Photosmart, just to be sure (that is assuming you are wanting it for photos and layouts).

Let us know what you find out and good luck on your search!

Thanks for your input Robin. I hardly ever print just photos out at home. I send them out to Walgreens. I'm planning on using it pretty much just for printing 12x12s.
