iwillfly525
Ok. I have some organization questions. I’m trying to get into digital scraping. So far I’ve only made 2 Los. I’m working on building up enough of a collection of things that I can work with now. I still need to buy “a few” more sets before I feel I’m ready to start. But I also think I need to get what I have organized first. So here is what I have done so far. I have all of my collections saved together on my 2nd hard drive. So that way if I want stuff that coordinates I can find it easily. I think I’m ok with that. Then I’m also saving all of collections and freebies together because I think some of the sets go well together, plus you can change the color of things. I have created folders for papers, embellishments, brushes, templates, and so on. I took the time to organize my papers based on the color wheel (I did this through my computer). And I really liked that, however when I go to open them in Photo Shop, they are all in alphabetical order. Any idea how I can change this? (When I open the file though my computer they are still in color order.) I don’t thing I want my embellishments by color, since that is easy to change. Any idea how I should organize them? I have just started to figure out brushes, so I only have a few. But soon I will need to organize them. I have yet to try to use templates, but I thought for them I would make sub-categories based on the number of pictures they fit. So I guess what I would like to know is if there is a different way that you think I should be organizing or how you organize all of your stuff. Guest Mingle Now
Well i think if you rename your files/folder with prefix - 1.11yfilename 1.12xfilename 1.13tfilename 1.14rfilename 1.15bfilename ... ... .. .. .. . 1.99nfilename In this way you get get organized irrespective of the alphabetical order. I hope it works for you...
momentousangel
There's some wonderful information in re of organizing your files in the University, . Here's a link to that section for quick reference. Your Survival Guide to Managing Your Scrapbooking Supplies. This method is very easy to understand and a great way to know whats where etc.
gritstoner
I use the method shown in the university link above and it works fairly well for me. You can alter the titles of the files to suit your existing collections. I agree that it is sometimes nice to keep the biggies together as they already compliment each other, and the above method doesn't really accommodate a collection with lots of different colours. Haven't quite got round this myself just yet, but after a recovered disaster on my external HD I haven't yet unzipped my restored backup files - I am contemplating keeping these just organised in their collections with a separate folder for all my freebies. At least having all these great products is teaching me how to manage files in windows XP - I dread to think how I would have coped back in windows 95 LOL BTW changing the view options to thumbnails gives you a preview of whats in your folders. DDecker
I intitally save all downloads into a download file by site downloading from. When I unzip the file I put it into a file under the site by type, ie; paper, brush, embelishment by DESIGNER. SG uses a first and last name system for labeling, LCO is Lori Cook. When I need to find something that I am not sure where I put it I use Picassa2, a free download from Google. It allows you to search and find by key word. needmath
I set up folders and started to organize as mentioned in SGU but I had the same problem with seperating out the kits. So I added a folder for kits. When I start to feel comfortable with knowing everything I have then maybe I'll seperate the kits out. I've also thought to tag the items in the PSE browser and then seperate them all in the folders. I would then be able to pull up all of the kit items when I want to use them all together.
