I just ordered the Epson 1900 (I am upgrading from the Epson 1400). I was wondering about ink consumption and clogged printheads. Does this printer have trouble with either? While I do love the 1400, I longed for the professional printer. Got a fantastic deal at newegg.com plus a $150 rebate - can't wait! I notice the ink is cheaper for this printer, and wondered about how long it lasts?

Thanks for any advice or tips on this printer -

I don't know about the 1900 but I'd love to see the answers to this one because I do have the 1400 and have been thinking about upgrading.

Patsy -

If you are thinking about upgrading - newegg.com has this printer for $404.00 and if you google Epson Rebate, you will find a $150 rebate coupon online. It has a lot of restrictions on where you cannot buy the printer, but newegg is not one of them. The rebate is good through the 30th - my final price for this printer will be $268, about the same as I paid for the 1400. I love a good deal and everything I read about the 1900 states it produces gorgeous prints.

Waiting to find out....

Ok - got my new Epson 1900, it is extremely nice! I do not notice much of a difference in the print quality of the 1900 vs the 1400, both do an outstanding job. The 1900 produces a little more tru-to-life skin tones and I do love the glossy output. The pictures are more like photo lab quality with the gloss coating. And since I got such a good deal, I am glad I switched printers, but the Epson 1400 is a great printer also!

I have had the R1800 (the model before yours) for over 4 years. I've never had a clogged printhead. Still does fabulous prints. Doesn't really seem to use too much ink either. Enjoy your printer!

Thanks, April! It's good to know that you have had your printer that long and still happy with it. I am looking forward to having mine to many years. Can't wit to print a layout.

Thanks again -

I've been wanting the 1900, saw it demo'd at Photoshop World Expo and fell in love with it. I was just going to post a question about it when I went back and found this older thread. So after several months, are you still happy with it? Have you tried printing on canvas? I was excited to know you can use rolled paper as well as canvas rolls. I understand that the rebate is often running. I'm thinking I may just have to get one of these. The samples they showed at the expo were incredible! And so many professional papers can give stunning effects. I'm waiting to hear more about this printer.

I saw the 1900 demo'ed at Staples here - couple of the people there who already owned one said that they think it's the best printer they've seen for the money - and no problems with clogging and the ink seems to last a long time in the 1900. I will be anxious to hear more of what you think about it after using it for awhile - it's about time for me to start thinking about a new printer too. Hope you enjoy yours.

I have one and I love it. I have had the printer heads clog up once or twice, but it's not a big deal. There is a program you run and it cleans everything out automatically. It think the print quality is fabulous. I only print with Epson inks and paper. The only exception to that would be for Avery papers.

I typically use the luster photo paper for my layouts and matte presentation paper as my cardstock. The colors are very rich, but when you print in PSE or photoshop you have to select the correct type of paper or the color will be off...

I really couldn't be more pleased with my printer. I hope you enjoy yours as well. :)

Ink:

I have to replace the gloss optimizer the most often, and then photo black next... but I generally get great life out of my ink.

Kelly, can you, or do you, turn off the gloss optimizer when you print on the matte presentation paper?

Well, after reading more about both the R1990 and R2880, I bit the bullet and went for the 2880. What I read from the reviews and various sellers is that the 1990 is the best if you print color glossy the most. For Satin, lustre and matte or B&W, the 2880 is better. So I rarely print glossy, mostly satin and matte, and I do print some B&W photos, so I went with the 2880. there's a $250 instant rebate going on now so that brought the price down a bit, though still a lot. One thing I read about both of them is that the inks do not penetrate the papers well, so if the print are handled a lot there's rub off. Not a problem if you are putting scrapbook pages in page holders or photo prints behind glass. I should have this next week so I'll let you know how I like it.

Uh-oh...I need to stay away from this thread, lol. I have the ANCIENT Epson 1280, also a 12 x 12. I've had it for probably at least 5 years now. It probably eats ink for lunch and dinner, but produces excellent results for me. The print heads only seem to clog if DH (or I) accidentally leave it on, or if I don't print anything for a month or more. Y'all will end up enticing me to buy a new printer if I read these too carefully, I'm sure!
