I have scanned a picture of a stamp. I opened it as a jpeg in PSCS3 and saved it as a png file. It was easy to use the paint bucket to fill the different areas of the design. But when I brought it into a layout I found that the original outlines were transparent. They look black in my png file, but the background color shows instead of the black outlines in my layout. The fill colors are all correct. Hope I am explaining this right so someone can tell me how to make the black outlines stay black in my jpeg layout. Thanks in advance.

Ok...I screwed up!! What I did was color the jpeg file and drag it over into the layout, which kept the colors but not the outline. When I drag the png file over into the jpeg layout I have the white background. I thought png files were to be transparent. I am soooo confused now. :hit-head-with-hammer:

png files are transparent but when you scan an image like a stamp you will have either a white or black background that needs to be removed then save the image as a png. When you open it again it will have the transparent background you expect.
