I was going to guess a strand of purple Mardi Gras beads.

But that's not a "pair."

Hmmmm.....

not a pair of socks,
not a pair of pants,
not a pair of clogs,
not a pair of sneakers,
not a pair of sunglasses....

the only other pair I can think of is shorts (Teresa's guess)
