Okay I love my Epson 1400 but the other day I made my own piece of paper and it was brown with an overlay. When I printed it out it wasn't quite the brown color I wanted, that alone was frustrating as it happens quite often but what was ever more frustrating was the fact that you could not see the overlay I had applied to the paper. You could see a bit of grunge on there but there was a definate pattern on my overlay and that was completely gone. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any help.

Susan,

It could be a few things - when I had the Epson 1400, it printed beautifully right off the bat. However, I found if I checked the box "enhance photo" (or something like that), the colors were off. Another time, I downloaded the latest driver from Epson's website, and my pictures became much too dark. Reverted to the original driver and I was fine.

An important thing - do you calibrate your monitor? If not, the colors you are seeing on your monitor might not be right, thus your colors from your printer will be off.

I think most importantly, are you matching the paper you are using with the printer profile?

Those are a few things that could make your prints less than satisfactory. I loved that printer and it does great prints. I recently upgraded to the Epson r1900 and gave my sister the 1400, but I miss it... hope you get yours straightened out!

Thanks for your advice. I will try to look into those things. What confused me is the pattern was right there on the monitor but didn't print on the paper. Then we printed a swatch of it to the HP we have (it isn't wide format) and it printed the pattern just fine. Weird.

Susan,

That is weird - the only other thing I can think of, is your 1400 prints lighter than what shows on your screen, thus if you have a light overlay, it might not show up. Play with a little bit and see if you can get it to come in.

Okay I had to update you on this topic. I was trying to help my sister figure this out. I got her into scrapbooking and she buys digital stuff buy only to paper scrap it so if she can't print it good then it would be useless for her to buy. She had made this beautiful faded photo on a page and it printed AWFUL. Had just terrible colors and my printer is a good one (the Epson 1400). I finally had time to sit down for a sec and really look at what she did. I saw the file and it was a PNG, I had told her make them into JPG's but didn't really know that it was that important. Obviously it was because I saved it as a JPG and it printed beautifully. So thanks for your help and if anyone else has this problem just make sure you are saving it as a JPG. I also am not talking about a regular PNG file so I better clarify that. She uses Digital Image Pro and its layered file is a PNG plus. So don't try to print from your layered files because it must confuse the printer. LOL Doesn't take much to confuse me anymore. LOL
