I have the R1800 and love it. I've had it for over 4 years. I've looked at the 1400, and I think it didn't have as many ink cartridges as the one I have. I'd heard that the only difference was that it didn't have a roll feeder like mine (never used it) but when I looked at the inks, I wasn't so sure. I'm sure it does a lovely job printing.

Oh, you DO want one :2468who-do-we-appreciate: I had one for over 1 1/2 years and loved it. The prints are gorgeous, lots of color and depth. I recently had the opportunity to upgrade to the Epson 1900 for like $300 off regular price so I went for it, and passed the 1400 to my sister, who now loves it.

I think the dye inks that the 1400 use produce a little brighter and more vivid colors. I had read that and I found it to be true when comparing prints from the 1400 to the 1900. I thought the 1400 wasn't too bad on ink, the pink seemed to go the fastest, but I usually got about 30 12 x 12s from one pink, along with lots of 4 x 6.

That is a great price and if you do not have a wide-format printer, you will love it - promise :party-smiley-048:

I'm in process of deciding which printer I want. Decision made. I'm getting the Epson 1400. I currently have a Brother MFC 240C, which doesn't print 12x12. It does a great job at printing and I love how it scans. However, I have wanted a wide format printer for the longest time. I have some extra money right now, and this is what it will be used for. A-shopping-I-Will-Go. A-shopping-I-Will-Go. Hi-Ho the merry-o. A-shopping-I-Will-Go.

I just visited the OfficeMax website to check out what the paper costs for wide format printers. They had it listed for $199 and it looks like it comes on a roll. If that is what is needed for the printer, I'll continue to send out my layouts for printing and forget about buying the Epson 1400 printer. This is just a little bit too high in price for me. Even if they have a two for one sale, it's still too expensive for me.

Paper isn't that expensive for the wide format printers. I haven't priced it lately since I haven't used up the 13x19 paper I got right after I got mine as an anniversary present. I've never used the roll feeder. That is probably a pretty big roll for that price. I use the matte presentation paper. I looked around online and found a place that had good prices. I called their 800 number and they gave me an even better price than they'd listed, and discounted shipping. And no, I don't exactly remember where that was. It was 4 years ago. :D

The Epson 1400 doesn't take roll paper. I purchased my paper from redriverpaper.com. I purchase both 12 x 12 and 13 x 19 from them. Owning a wide-format printer is so much fun, but yes, the inks and papers can get pricey. I think I once figured it cost about $2.75 for each layout I printed. But its great to do them from home and it also prints wonderful photos. Scrapbooking, either digital or "real" is an expensive hobby, the equipment, the supplies, printers, inks, papers - but I am hooked...

Red River paper sells a two-sided 12 x 12 matte paper, It is $26 for 50 sheets, which will give you 100 prints. So that should last a long time!

Good luck with your decision, a lot of consider, I know...

I didn't get paper on a roll...
The epson paper was pretty spendy (except for the buy one get one deal) so when I run out of the paper that I purchased yesterday I will have to shop around.
I know many people use the double sided matte presentation paper at staples.

I hope to make my christmas calendars and stuff with it.

:whew: That just took a load off of my mind. Thank you so much ladies for your help. I will certainly consider the large format printer, now that I know you don't have to buy the roll. I was not about to spend $200 just for paper. I currently send my layouts to Scrapbooks To Share and they do some wonderful printing. Their cost per page is about $2.50, I think, but I'd rather print at home then have to wait for my layouts to come in the mail. Although, they do pretty fast shipping.

Yikes! So much to consider, so many options, it makes my head spin. :dunno:

I have an Epson 1270 which has been very good to me but is on it's last legs. This thread has sold me on the 1400 - thanks everyone. The Epson site is sold out at this price, i'll try to get one from Officemax. Thanks for the info!

I have the Epson 1400 and love it! You might want to check the Epson site. If you order 3 inks they ship overnight free! And no tax! I found they were a couple of dollars cheaper than OfficeMax and Office Depot + no tax no shipping. Also they have had a couple of sales this year - buy one get one free + no tax! I use the Presentation Matt paper also. I stocked up on both the regular paper and double sided on their last sale. Use the regular Presentation paper for my Christmas calendars.

Also, free shipping on orders over $100. so you might want to check out the price of printers with them. No, I don't work for Epson - LOL
